...And I'd like to add this: my mother has had 11 pugs over the last 48 years, of which there has been one case of patella luxation (easily fixed - no long term damage), two cases of serious eye problems (one damaged by a much larger dog, one scrabbling about in the bushes - no chronic pain later), no breathing problems at all and no hip dysplasia. One died very young from hydrocephalus (congenital, not breed specific). All the others lived to a ripe old age and had lives filled with joy

Ma is now rather elderly and quite infirm, the current pug, Lucy, in enchanting. Active, happy, sweet natured, a little bit naughty and keeps ma cheerful and 'on the ball'. I don't have pugs myself as I prefer Chows but have always found ma's very lovable.
To the person who is allergic to pugs: have you ever met a black one? Their coat is completely different from the fawn coats.
