My OHs Nokia 5800 (I think that's the model number - it's the express music model and she texts using a stylus) is beginning to show signs of imminent demise.

I showed her my HTC but she isn't interested in any of the smartphone features.

So it's a non-smartphone for her - anyone recommend one?

What smartphone features is she not interested in that the 5800 does not have?

The only one I can think of is that it is a candy bar form factor with a smaller screen than is the modern trend which makes it easier to slip in the trouser pocket.

She isn't interested in email, google maps, web browsing etc. she says the screens are just too small. She's not interested either in Android apps - games etc. She has an Android tablet for all that.

She wants to call, text and take the occasional picture. As far as I know 95% of her use is texting.

I know when I call her she never answers as the bloody thing is at the bottom of her handbag.

I use my 5800 to do all of those things. What about another 5800 or possibly an X6?

I had assumed the 5800 was discontinued.

I'll show her the X6

Thanks.

It's a sign of the times that because a mobile phone has been around for a while I automatically think it's been superseded.

If she cares about texting, how about a Nokia E-Series

I'm looking at the Nokia C3 from the Carphone Warehouse (the normal one, not the one with One Direction 'content' pre-loaded!). It has a QWERTY keypad for texting, but it's not a smartphone, it's just a talk and messaging device. I like that it's just a pretty simple device from a tried-and-tested brand name and not trying to be a hundred things at once. You might be able to find similar models that are either cheaper or better elsewhere--I always go with Carphone because their handsets come unlocked.

I'm actually moving away from Android because my smartphone is becoming unbearable to use--I won't bore you with the details, but random reboots, taking 30 seconds to load the 'phone' app to make a call and a half-day battery life meaning I have to carry a power brick around everywhere are getting me down.

I definitely want to rejoin the Nokia camp now that money's not so tight--they've always made decent devices with good, intuitive user interfaces, whereas Android seems to have more features than you can deal with buried in a zillion menus. It's like using the world's most complicated computer, only you're standing in a freezing street trying to get a map out of the thing.

I think your view is a tad coloured by the fact that you have a duff phone.....However, enjoy your new purchase, whatever it be..
