I'm looking at the Nokia C3 from the Carphone Warehouse (the normal one, not the one with One Direction 'content' pre-loaded!). It has a QWERTY keypad for texting, but it's not a smartphone, it's just a talk and messaging device. I like that it's just a pretty simple device from a tried-and-tested brand name and not trying to be a hundred things at once. You might be able to find similar models that are either cheaper or better elsewhere--I always go with Carphone because their handsets come unlocked.
I'm actually moving away from Android because my smartphone is becoming unbearable to use--I won't bore you with the details, but random reboots, taking 30 seconds to load the 'phone' app to make a call and a half-day battery life meaning I have to carry a power brick around everywhere are getting me down.
I definitely want to rejoin the Nokia camp now that money's not so tight--they've always made decent devices with good, intuitive user interfaces, whereas Android seems to have more features than you can deal with buried in a zillion menus. It's like using the world's most complicated computer, only you're standing in a freezing street trying to get a map out of the thing.
