I was a little shocked that Rihanna's first UK number 1 was 'Umbrella'. I thought that 'SOS', 'Unfaithful' or 'Pon De Replay' may have been number 1 but they all peaked at number 2.

Anybody else surprised or is it just me?

She's always been unlucky with #2s, it's only now that she's finally been managing to regularly grasp #1s.

She's had a lot of other #2s aswell. For example, Live Your Life in 2008, Russian Roulette in 2009, and Rude Boy and Love the Way You Lie in 2010.

People say anything she releases gets to #1, but it's clearly not the case.

The fact her singles are always at the top end of the chart is incredible.

Well it isnt really. She has a large fanbase who will buy everything she does and a large minority on the outside who often buy what she does. She just happens to be, probably, the no.1 female star in the world at the moment an terms of chart success. How long will it last though? Everyone has a time limit.

no.

Speaking on how long it will last, well the media are already commenting negatively on how she's releasing another album. I feel if she rush releases another she'll face a backlash.

That's not true as it's still selling well and even though it's not getting to number 1 it's still getting into the top 3 and it's not like it's flopping

I thought that 'SOS'[...]may have been number 1
I'm shocked! I "remember" it being her first #1!

Rhianna has a thing with staying at #2.

Rude Boy is a prime example.

It was her first #1 in the US, which might be what you were thinking of.

It was HUGE in the UK though. It didn't get to #1, but was one of the 10 best-selling songs of that year (2006 I think).

It getting to #1 was quite big thing at the time I imagine. It's really common, even normal now, but back in 2006 it was extremely rare for an electropop song to get #1 in the US.

Her "unluckiest" #2 has to be Love the Way You Lie though, since it was #2 for 4 weeks. It sold a million last week aswell!
