Mike/Linda/Mark Love triangle culmination

O.k- It was tacky and completely unbelievable! But it had a charm- a little charm that I kept going back to again and again. All three of the leads had great chemistry and I think that's what made it worse.

It culminated in an hour special which also showed the death of drug dealer Jez Quigley. To have Mark drink too much at the reception and tell his Dad, on his wedding night, that he'd been sleeping with his new, gold digging stepmother, I thought, was absolutely brilliant!

The Rovers Fire.

The first half of this episode was very good. And it even had a special opening!

Anyway, Bet woke up to find the Rovers on fire. She tried to escape, but was overcome by smoke...throwing up on the stairs to boot! (And yes, she actucally threw up for real! If you ever want to see the contents of Julie Goodyears stomach then this is the episode to watch! LOL). Meanwhile, Kevin and Sally had just come home from a concert and were snogging on the street. All of a sudden, they realised that the Rovers was on fire! Kevin Sally ran around the houses knocking on everyone's door trying to wake them all up. Eventually, everyone on the street came out to see what the fuss was all about. Eventually, Kevin decided to go into the rovers to get Bet out. The lads fetched a ladder, and eventually Kevin managed to rescue Bet...getting her to the window where the firefighters managed to get them both out.

By the second part of the episode, the fire had been put out. Bet was in the hospital and several people went to visit her. At the same time, Jack had realised that he was responsible for the fire because he had tampered with the fuse box during the sing-along the night before. Jack told Terry, but didn't want to tell Vera for fear of upsetting her.

All in all it was a great episode...although I found the fire to be over and done with too quickly for my liking. Of course, it might have gotten a little tedious if they had stretched the fire over the entire episode.

Hilda Ogden queing up all night for a colour telly in the sale, then stopping to talk to the press/reporterrs and missing her place in the queue. Eddie Yeats helped to recify this by buying a weird plastic thing that had 3 colours on it to fit over her black and white tv.

Todd tells Sarah "I Don't Want To Get Married! I'm Gay!"

IN 2004 and for the first time in its 44 year history, Coronation Street introduced its first ever gay character. Whilst most soaps introduce a character for the immediate purpose of a big storyline, Corrie surprised us all when it was announced young Todd Grimshaw would be seen struggling with his sexuality in forthcoming storyline. "How will they do it?" "They're turning him gay?" "Thats madness, he's with Sarah!" people cried. However, in October 2003 the seeds for Corrie's biggest storyline in 04 were well and truly planted when Todd kissed or well tried to kiss his fiance Sarah Louise Platt's brother Nick!

"Is that it?" "Thats not a kiss!" "That doesn't make him gay!" we all cried after the episode. Corrie's first ever "gay kiss" was a complete non event. "Wrong Move Todd!" Nick said and proceeded to inform Sarah Louise, later to be dubbed Donkey by gay and straight Corrie fans alike, about her fiancee's locking of the lips with him on the couch. Sarah and Todd split for a while, this in turn introduced a psycho granny who kidnapped Sarah's kiddie Bethany in which we all focused on before getting down to the real big storyline.

Fast forward to early 2004 and the arrival of gay male nurse Karl Foster, a friend of Martin's from the hospital. Todd as luck would have it had just begun working at the hospital and was steaming ahead in his plans to wed Sarah Lou and get up her up the duff, prove he was a "real man" When Todd found out Karl was gay, his gaydar went into overdrive and he found himself trying to resist the charms of the handsome nurse, who by his own admission fancied Todd "like crazy"

Easter 2004 and we're all off to Canal Street for a Monday night double of Corrie. Karl's brithday bash would see Todd open the closet door and step out, even if just for a moment or two. Feeling awkward in the club Todd again tried to run away from the truth only to be confronted by Karl outside. This lead to Corrie's first ever real gay kiss and a full blown affair was soon to follow.

May 2004: Todd has dumped Karl and devoted himself to Sarah. However in a fit of despair he spills his guts to mum Eileen who almost tells Sarah herself about her sons sexuality. After a tension filled dinner at the Platts, Gail and Audrey bring Todd and Sarah Lou to view the church where their wedding is to be held. Feeling the walls closing on him, Todd finally bites the bullet in a Sunday night episode, the prelude to a Monday triple bill to be dubbed Corrie Fight Night!

"I can't marry ye Sarrer.....I'm gay!" The first of Monday's episode picked up with Todd elaborating on that earth shattering admission. Sarah Lou now heavily pregnant tries to brush it off as a phase. Really love, are you really that thick? It soon dawns on Sarah its not a phase and she soon lays into her gay fiancee. Todd's second revelation about his affair with Karl......in their bed! "How dare you lie to me!" screams Sarah as they proceed to fight, with poor Bethany in the next room. Sarah packs her bags and with Todd begging her to stay, vowing to never go with another man again, that he loves her, she leaves him as the first of the treble ends.

The 2nd episode, Fred is leading Our Kid into a taxi whilst Sarah Louise Platt and daughter Beth make their way to mum Gails house. Back at the flat, Todd Grimshaw sobs as his fiancee has left. Back at the Platts Sarah collapses in Gail's arms and tells her everything, the affair, him being gay and now calling off the wedding. Gail vows to have it out with Todd but Sarah says she's been through enough. Todd meanwhie makes his way to Eileen's in which he hides out. Later, we see Gail peering out her window across as the Grimshaws, only to find Todd peering back at her. A furious Gail in nightgown an all runs across the cobbles to have it out with Todd.
The Street comes to a standstill as Gail bangs down the Grimshaw door, revealing Todd's secret to the world. After unsuccessful attempt calm her down, Eileen belts Gail after Gail shrieks that Todd is "A twisted little pervert!" "raaaaaaahhh" a war cry from Gail and she is hanging out of Eileen's hair, as the two women wrestle on the cobbles with much hair pulling and some of the best lines of the entire storyline. Todd pulls them apart and in one last departing shot, Gail tells Jason "he's gay!" to which Todd replies "Its true" Jason walks off leaving Todd in despair.

The third of the treble takes place the day after the Coming Out. Jason has stayed out all night not wanting to share a room with this gay brother. This episode sees Fred Eilliot and Ashley rumble Our Kid as not some Thai Bride, but some Mancunian market seller. Back on the Street Todd tries to talk to Sarah which results in yet another fist fight. Nick and David Platt seize the opportunity to belt Todd by pinning him to a car. Although Nick clearly couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag, Jason Grimshaw breaks it up with Nick getting a thick lip for his troubles. The end of the episode Todd is left in tears when Jason says "You're a dirty queer and I want nothing to do with you" The fight night over, the secret is out, his fiancee gone, Todd stands alone in the Street, alienated by everyone apart from his goddess mother Eileen.

I was only supposed to do one but I couldn't stop myself lol

Saying that, it's not really an episode.

Maybe I should make a 'Classic Storylines' section Then the funeral could be covered and the kiss with Nick right through to his exit.

And I'm sure Trickie Dickie and other storylines could get up there too. Maybe just the funeral should be a classic episode. What do you think.

Right I'm going to bed

I can't remember it in great detail I'm afraid. Maybe someone else can.

It was Christmas 1991 when Percy was playing Santa at Freshco's & was p*ssing off the kids and parents trying to teach them the real reason of Christmas etc.

Reg had to take over & was faced by an angry father. He tried to dispute that it wasn't him who'd upset the child & the father answered something along the lines of "I was told to look for a fat guy in a red suit."

It's funny if you know what I'm talking about...honest.

Quite good site, what I've seen so far.

Wondering about Eilleen's history though, you say she's been single since she split with her husband. I thought she had never been married, and then you say the only other significant love interest was Harry Flag, what about Dennis Stringer?

Not picking holes honest, just pointing things out that I'm not sure about, good site.

And he was cheating on her with Janice for most of that time, hence the fantastic punch Eileen gave Janice in the shop. Lets have more of Eileen belting people, starting with Sarah Lou I mean she has to be pretty pissed about Todd being driven out, I know my mum would be lol

The best storyline I thought was best was the Richard Hillman plot.

Richard Kills Maxine

Everyone knew it was going to happen!! Richard would strike again!! But everyone was guessing at who it was. After weeks of speculation the episode began. It was Maxine's mum Dorrens birthday party at the rovers. Everyone was there except Emily Bishop who was looking after baby Joshua in the Peacocks house. While Happy Birthday was sung Richard sneaked put and stole drugged Aden Critchleys boots, cap and coat. He climbed over the fence into the garden and forced open the door with a crowbar. Emily was sat watching T.V!! Would Richard kill Emily?? Everyone waited with baited breath and saw him hit poor Emily with the crowbar. The door then went and there stood Maxine Peacock! She was terrified and ran for upstairs to crying Joshua. But Richard got her and killed her. He trashed the place making it look like it was a robbery went wrong.
When Ashley turned up he found Maxine dead and Emily just alive. The ambulance were called and Ashley was arrested for murder (he was realased later) and Richard smiled as they were boarded into an ambulance!

Friday's double bill in the week after Todd's great revelation didn't get the hype that the Monday earlier in the week gained, but it was just as dramatic. The Tv mags were labelling it 'The fallout in the street' after the earth-shattering events that unfolded. We, the viewers, began to see the aftermath of what happened and how it affected both families. Todd, it seemed, was affected the most. Not only was the front door to his house spray painted with the word 'queer' by none other than David Platt, but the way he and his mother found this graffiti was terrible to watch. With most of the street stood around the front door, Todd and Eileen stood there trying to take in what was happening. In one of the most heartbreaking performances of her career, Sue Cleaver told the street defiantly that her son was a real man and that she was so proud of him.

Later that day, Todd began to see a light at the end of the tunnel when his brother began to come to terms with his brother being gay. It took its time, but by the end of the episode you could see the brothers become reunited. However, in the journey was another heartbreaker when Sarah came round and told Todd that he would never see his son. Todd broke down but his brother was there for him.

Sarah also had a distressing day. First of all she had to go and see the vicar to tell him that the wedding was off, and then it appeared that the vicar felt sorry for Todd, something Sarah didn't expect him to say. After a while, she began to get upset and declared that she would never forgive him.

These individual stories together made it some of the best scenes on corrie EVER, and along with the Monday's episodes were I believe Coronation Streets best week in the history of the show.

(If anyone wants to write a review of baby Billy's funeral, another great 2 episodes, then that would be great coz they were amazing to watch as well, purely for the raw emotion)
