Is that the same Rowetta that used to be backing singer for the Happy Mondays?

She's been in the top ten already! It's a fix I tell you.

No wonder she is so crazy, working for Shaun Ryder can have that effect on people

She was in Black Grape too, and she appeared in the movie '24 hour party people'.

She is obviously "mad for it".

Rowetta was in The Happy Mondays, she sang quite a bit on their "Pills,Thrills and Bellyaches" album...songs like "Step On", "Loose Fit" and "Kinky Afro".

Was she the nutter who they couldn't get rid of? Surely this show should be for people who haven't had a chance before, that sucks, same as Matt from OTV, he shouldn't be on it.

Is that right? She was crying and saying she was 38 and it was her last chance ... She did look a bit familiar.

Yep - it's her. Took me ages to work out where I'd seen her before - ...

She's got a website - www.rowetta.bizland.com which gives a bit of info.

Rowetta has only ever worked as a backing singer.
She has a great voice and at 38 she is bound to have done some singing before, but she deserves a chance to have success as a solo singer.
She is fabulous and I hope she goes on to win it, and unlike Matt Johnson, she has no connection to any of the judges and doesn't have a deal.
Rowetta to win.

She's in the Kinky Afro vid too, sheesh time hasn't been kind to her (nor me ) has it.
I'm REALLY surprised she was interested in X factor,IMHO it was so uncool for her to beg too....some singers are meant to be in the background,I don't see this ending happily,do you?

Someone on This Morning who was at the celebrity awards on Sunday was told by Simon Cowell that Rowetta is amazing and is definitely in with a chance of winning it. Looks like he has got the over 25's and has started his campaign already

Simon must know something some of you don't.
He said at the time she has a Great voice and that was from a very drunk performance.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of her.
I think she's a breath of fresh air to the show, and looks great for her age.
About time someone real won, instead of all the bland, samey acts.
As for the begging, it seemed more like an alcohol induced comedy routine, but Rowetta can sing, even Louis said that.

Those who doubt it, listen to her on the mondays records.
I've seen her live, she's amazing.

ROWETTA TO WIN!!!

Makes great tv though and all the judges agreed, she can sing.
Simon said she has a Great voice.
Can't wait to see her in bootcamp.
Hope she goes all the way to the finals and proves all you boring, bland, pop idol lovers wrong.

In fact I'd put money on it she does.
She's a star.

Rowetta sang the 'hooks' on a lot of the Happy Mondays later records, and as such was as important as Shaun Ryder and Bez in the bands success at that point.

To me it came as a bit of a shock to see her grovelling for a spot on X factor, I was thinking "do you really need this"?

I got over Johnny Rotten going onto 'I'm a Celebrity' though, so what the heck, good luck to her

I’d say that, as much as the Mondays loved her and used her repeatedly on their songs, she was still only a backing singer. She certainly wasn’t ‘important’ enough to be named on their tracks ‘Happy Mondays feat. Rowetta’ etc. She probably earned enough to pay her bills, and did a lot of touring etc, but it’s not the same as real fame and fortune.

If they keep her away from the booze and restyle her a little, I think she could be completely ace and original.

Arggghhh. She's just been on and I think she's awful.

I've been totally awed by two acts so far, the bankers and the black girl in Simon's lot...not Rowetta, but I cant remember her name.

Well, if she was just a backing singer, she probably won't have seen any of the money, as she probably just got a session singers wages. And as for video appearances, they like them young and pretty, so she won't get getting any of them anymore.

So yeah, sad but true, she probably does need it

She is very endearing and i have heard some of her stuff with the Happy Mondays and she is a very good singer - I just think she should CALM down. But she is very quirky and may have loads of her own material alreay that could be released (and after the whole Will thing, Simons not going to miss another chance of working with someone credible), she also has an existing fanbase - so all in all she is probably more positive than negative to Simon.
