connecting video player to PC
Can you connect a VHS player to a PC, because I have some old movies on tape that I would like to convert to DVD. Please could you help in offering advice on any hardware needed and where to get it from. Thank you if you can help.

Yes you can, by either fitting an internal capture card or with an extrernal USB 2 device, such as a Pinnacle Studio Moviebox, which I have.
It is however, a very time consuming job and you can have lots of problems like sound & vision going out of sync and the PC crashing and losing data etc. Unless you really want to do a lot of editing and use fades & fancy stuff to produce a master piece, then I wouldn't bother. I have now opted for an easier option, by buying a Liteon LVW5005 Home DVD Recorder. Now all I need to do is plug my VCR into that & copy directly to DVD - job done. Novatech are now selling these for £182.13 http://www.****************/novatech/s...tml?LIT-DVDHOM You can get a lot of information on procedures & capture cards etc. from VideoHelp.com below. http://www.videohelp.com |

it should be pretty straight forward with a DVD recorder, they have scart inputs and often regular video/sound in with those yellow+red and white phono type connectors.
you just plug in your source, ie video scart to DVD ext scart, select the source on the DVD recorder and then set your length/quality. then press play on the VCR or camcorder or whatever and record on the DVD recorder ![]() same as if you were copying VHS-VHS very simple and easy to do that way. VCR to PC is a lot more complicated but does allow you a bit more control over your clips, ie you could record each scene and then re arrange in any order and with things like DVD moviefactory you can create some nice looking menus to select the clips. But it is more of a pain to setup and then getting the DVD compliant format capture setting etc.
