JLS were bottom 2 one week and ended up coming 2nd, as did Olly Murs IIRC, apart from that I can't think of anyone who's ended up a success after being bottom 2.
in fact most years the winner is near the top of the vote every week, like Matt last year. |

I don';t think you can completely rule it out - yes it hasn't happened in XF history, but there is a first time for everything.
Different shows; but this years DOI all 3 finalists had been bottom 2;v Strictly winners have been bottom 2 before as well. As I said just makes it more unlikely. JLS come the closest to winning after being bottom 2... them G4 and Olly |

Well JLS and Olly came second despite being in the bottom two, and both have been very successful as well. And regardless of your opinion on them and their musical output, Jedward and Cher have been successful after being in the bottom two.
But on the whole, I think I'd agree. It does look rather unlikely that you will win the show after being in the bottom two. |

Funnily enough I did a Wikipedia search on this earlier today, looking at every X Factor series in the world listed there - and there were loads - but aside from Lucy Benjamin in the UK battle of the stars I could only find one other person worldwide who had been in the bottom two and gone on to win. |

Gotta agree here. But winning isn't the be all and end all.

I agree but it doesn't mean they won't be successful.
Olly had the lowest votes week 7 and went on to come 2nd and have a great career. |

You can still be a success though. Cher was in the bottom 2 twice before she was eliminated!
But yep, probably not a chance of winning. |

Different shows but Danielle was bottom 2 and won the Dorothy show.
Jade was bottom 2 and won the Euro show. People just pick a favourite from auditions/boot camp/first week and tend to stick with them unless they completely muck up. As a Nation we are fickle but we can hold some loyalty for several weeks.

Probably can't be done but not impossible - depends where the votes from eliminated contestants go. But I really can't see it happening with anybodyin the bottom 2 this early. Maybe a bad song in the final 4/5/6 might be survivable if the votes are close or somebody is perceived to be such a favourite that their voters aren't motivated.
I think Alex was probably closest - 4th out of 6 was dangerous ground. |

Frankie knows he can't and won't win. He just wants to stay in as long as possible to gain as much exposure so that all the girls will recognise him and say ooooh there's Frankie from X Factor!!

Although if you are bottom 2 early on its hard to see you coming back - last 5 or 6 (when the vote is tight) still means its possible. Things can turnaround - Katie W came 8th one week last year and 2nd the next. The public are fickle! |

The number of votes is probably so low this year that someone who has been in the bottom two probably has the best chance of winning than they've ever had before.
