internet TV - using adapter?

Sorry if posted in wrong thread - I did try to pick the most obvious to me.

I have a Sony internet ready TV (well bought for my mother-in-law - now hers) and had no real interest in it till now. I have just dismantled and old desktop - ever to be used again and have a spare Netgear WG111v3 wireless adapter. Will this work on the TV or do I need a more updated or specific adapter to utilize the internet ability of this TV

ignore questions- just found out that no 3rd party adapter will work and the one you need to buy is at best sketchy in service quality.

Will either go down homeplugs route or just connect laptop via HDMI......thanks

There are alternatives to the expensive sony usb adapter.
These convert the network socket on the back of the tv to wireless :

I'd still recommend either a wired ethernet connection or homeplugs though.
