I remember reading that some of the pros smoked to help keep slim - they smoked instead of snacking.

And before being so quick to condemn smokers, remember that when many of us started it was not just acceptable but socially desirable! Nobody told us it damaged our health, and the 'Marlboro Man' adverts even made it look macho! I've been a smoker for 40 years and spent the last 6 months trying to quit - even with NHS help it ain't easy. It's like being a reformed alcoholic, as soon as you see someone with a ciggie you want one yourself.

I'm with you mate, I'm 12 and in the future, I have said to myself that I will never go near a cigarette.
Quite right at your age to be thinking that way. But you shouldn't be so judgemental because not everyone who smokes is disgusting or stinks like an old ashtray. If you go abroad to France / Spain / Italy it's very common to see loads of young people sat smoking in cafes - was probably the norm for Vincent too. He has a pretty full - on stressful career performing all year round, so who's going to deny him the odd cigarette here and there. Everyone who has been up close to him says he smells divine anyway - he did after I met him after one of his shows, and he was having a cigarette then

Harry and Chelsee both smoke. Chelsee gave that away on ITT - when talking of how she bumped her head she said "Harry and I were outside being naughty" or words to that effect and I said straight away - smoking then. My sister is Mcfly's no1 fan and confirmed my suspisions by saying sadly "her" Harry is a smoker.

Personally it ruins my idealised image of a celeb learning they smoke - I think Erin is a godess but after reading on here she's possibly a smoker its knocked her down a peg or two... Same for James.

I have never smoked and have no intention of starting as the smell is awful
More people should be like you, smoking destroys people slowly.

What right is it of any of us to to judge what somebody does legally in their own time?

I agree with this, it shouldn't change someone's opinion of somebody!!

I don't know, but it's kind of human nature to weigh up someone's quirks and foibles and habits when you're forming an opinion of them. There's plenty of legal activities that still turn many people off quite a bit, e.g., adultery, gun ownership, voting conservative, eating blue cheese...

Sorry, don't mean to be flippant. I'm a smoker myself, and I know it's a very stupid and self-destructive habit, and people are free to judge me on it, that's their prerogative. But it does leave them open to having their own weaknesses judged... and everyone has at least a few!

Would never condemn anyone for smoking (30+ years before I managed to give up).

OT but I was shocked when Judith Keppel said she once smoked on Eggheads*. I would have thought she'd be dead against it.

*That is, she said on Eggheads that she once smoked. Not that she was puffing away whilst they were answering questions you understand.

I can totally understand the previous posters who said that finding out someone smokes changes their opinion of that person for the worse. It's the same for me. I'm just so disappointed in the person for making such a bad choice. And especially dancers, whose job is to be fit! Sure, smoking and doing lots of exercise is way healthier than smoking and being a couch potato... but doing lots of exercise and not smoking is healthier still!
Besides, with all the practice they get, surely they can eat a lot and remain slim even without smoking?

I don't mind if the pro dancers smoke but if they eat blue cheese? Well, they'd go right down in my estimation. *tuts*

Well exactly. Although I love blue cheese

The point stands though - I think if you found out someone you admired had done anything that you found distasteful, it might change your opinion of them. That doesn't mean people should have no right to do the thing you find distasteful. And no, I'm not and have never been a smoker.

Unfortunately nicotine is one of the most instantly addictive substances known. The distasteful part is caused by the unhealthy delivery system most people use, as the pure stuff is poison.

The good thing these days is there are fewer smokers along with less public awareness of who still smokes.

Ah, good on you!

I wish you all the best for the future and hope you manage to kick the habit.

I'm not a smoker, but my father is, he started smoking when he was 16 and is now in his 80's. He stopped smoking when he had to go in to hospital, however the real test has been his coming back home and trying not to smoke.

I back you up totally that it is not an easy habit to kick, even with help. He's managed 18 months off them so far. He did give up on a previous hospital stay, then when he got home he relapsed and started again, so I am hoping he manages to stay off them this time, as they are really not helping his health.

As far as dancers go, I can see why some would choose to smoke, in that its supposed to surpress the appetite.

Good luck Pentax20 - You can do it!

Yes, there is a photo of him arriving at the studios with a cigarette in his hand.

As an ex smoker I am in no position to pontificate, I am just surprised that he does smoke as he obviously takes care of his body and must spend hours in the gym to look like that. Lets hope that is just the occasional fag, and not 40 Marlboro a day, which is what I was on a few years ago!

naah, you will be fine, I've seen your posts, you have a great sense of humour - I reckon that goes a long way in counteracting any little bad habits!

Not really, no I'd happily kill for a scotch egg right now, if that's any redemption for me
