Tonights EDale Unbelievable
I find it unbelievable that Viv would react the way she did learning he was convicted of being a rapist when her son was accused of being a rapist not so along...
Scott: "well theres no rapist coming to live here and that's the end of it" - no one knows if it's true it was totally different when Scott was being accused of being a rapist - unbelievable... So they learn something from a journalist they have never met and just turn against a villager they've known for how long? -unbelievable Why would there be so much press interest? Is he a serial rapist or what? |

Well I can understand what your sayin about Scott. And at the moment there is only 2 journalists who have turned up so it is'nt a huge huge case. Not sure if they have plans for mroe to come.
I have to say tough this storyline does seem very good to me, and I am enjoying it a lot. |

Erm, as anyone who has watched the show will testify, Viv is pretty ignorant, so of COURSE she would react like that. It's what makes up part of her character.
Secondly, Scott didn't actually rape anyone. And Ashley and Edna confirmed it was true before everyone went a bit mad. To be honest I think it was believable enough, though I was hoping some people would be more rational, but let's not forget it's only instant reactions so far. Thirdly, only two reporters from a LOCAL paper have appeared, it's hardly a media frenzy yet. It's what happens from here that will be interesting, seeing who sticks by them and who doesn't. |

So just because he was convicted of rape automatically means he did it? They haven't even spoken to him or his mum yet... Scott was nearly convicted but he didn't do it...
What short memorys they all have.... |

I really like Seth but I suspect that they see Len or Jervaise or both as long term replacements for Seth

What short memorys they all have.... Frank is certain to be guilty, and I think there was an episode a while ago where Pearl said something happened that made her realize it was true. I think he did it twice. If a reporter announces that a convicted rapist is moving into your village, your instant reaction is not going to be, "oh well, maybe he didn't do it." Personally I wouldn't act like a lynch mob, but I can well imagine some people would and no doubt others will come round to the idea of him being there eventually. I think he's likely to be portrayed as a harmless enough guy now, who ultimately has to overcome the preconceptions people have about him. I expect he will get blamed for a lot of things. It will be interesting to see months, maybe over a year down the line (if he's still there), a possible relationship starting between him and a villager. Maybe then the rape tendencies might be brought out again, but who knows. I doubt it though, more than likely it will be an interesting storyline about them both dealing with it and the potential girlfriend learning to trust him. |

I was more surprised by Scott's blatant homophobia with Paul the other day, didn't think he was like that, especially when you consider the Zoe situation! LOL
Don't remember him being like that with Jason either. Hmmm. Seemed a bit like "well we need someone to be homophobic" to me which was a bit annoying. |

I thought Scotts comment to Paul unnessesary as Drifter quite rightly mentioned Scott and Zoe

I must have missed that bit - why what did Scott say? Its a bit odd that he would say that though as I am sure he used to be mates with Jason Kirk as well?

Frank Bernard was guilty - even his mum says so. I believe that although he was put inside for one crime, he was actually accused of a previous rape that he wasn't convicted for.
I think it's a brilliant storyline. Viv is so judgemental that I think she'd be against ANYBODY for any reason - irrespective of what her son was or wasn't accused of in the past. After all, her son was proved to be innocent. The trouble of being convicted of a sexual crime is that the crime becomes part of you much more than any other crime. You can be somebody who has COMMITTED a burglary, or committed a fraud, but you ARE a rapist. You might have learned your lesson and never commit burglary again, but people will always suspect you of committing further sex crimes, because it's seen as part of your makeup. I just feel so sorry for Pearl. |

I thought Viv's reaction was spot on and perfectly in character for her. She has always been the first to open her mouth before thinking and always conveniently forgets everything her own family gets up to like Scott accused of rape, Donna being involved in a hit and run, Kelly having anaffair with her teacher..... She's always quick enough to see faults in everyone else. Also the journalists were very clever picking out the person they knew they could get going the most to tell the story to. I also thought Scotts comment was pretty accurate for him too as he is a lot like Viv thinking he is better than everyone else.
What did annoy me was Dawn, she's only been in the village 5 minutes and she was there is the pub trying to lead proceedings along with Viv. Also Emily's reaction surprised me as she has always been the sort of person to find out both sides of the story before jumping in, yet she went marching off to Pearl's with the rest of them. Personally I think Pearl was stupid to think she could keep in quiet from them. She said in previous episodes how she had lived in Oldham and when her son was convicted she was hounded out of town, hence her move to Emmerdale...... Did she really think that she could keep it quiet in a small village like Emmerdale when she had been hounded out of Oldham? In my opinion she should never have even entertained the idea of Frank Bernard coming to live with them knowing that everything would get found out. Also she should have told Lisa the truth knowing Sam was in the same prison and could have easily found out why he was really in there. |
