@muppetman11 It's true, afraid Xbox NetFlix only supports 720p, PS3 allows for 1080p. Shame as I love using Kinect with it!

Anyway! If anyone would find it useful, we've posted a Comparison / Thoughts Video between NetFlix UK and LoveFilm. Features a look at the Xbox-version of the app, along with a few exclusive features to NetFlix.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr85R-ac5h0

Bear in mind, we’re just a small, two-host Discussion / Debate Show!

Thanks

Anyone know if we can use on multiple devices (or are capped like Sky's OD service to certain number of devices?)

My brother is thinking about subscribing past the free trial, but me as a poor university student (woe is me ) I'm cancelling before my trial ends. But would I be able to access his account at Uni as well so we're both benefitting from the one account?

Looking at the US catalogue, 14,000 titles and over, lots of TV stuff.
Yeah, for those of you who want to see what's on the US catalog:

http://instantwatcher.com/

It's a mess of a site, but you can see what's in the catalog and what's highest rated or most watched, etc. I imagine they'll add the UK netflix and allow you filter by it, just as they have done with the Canadian version.

I used my mates account to access USA content for a while and it worked fine and from memory I believe you're limited to a maximum of 5 devices.

Had my wee proper play on it last night. The quality of the library, for me anyway, is better than Love Film. Apple TV or Roku now? Decisions to make!

Maybe a PS3 would be better, you get a blu-ray unit, and a decent media machine that can play your music and your videos

It will cost more mind you.

Saying that I am not sure if I would replace my Ps3 if it goes belly up.

I have a ps3 but I find it a bit clumsly for somethings. What I want is a product where I can get rid of my Virgin TV. So very close now too it but I need something to suppliment Netflix so Im looking towards the Apple TV route where I can Netflix as well buying some shows shows and movies to have a fully library. For me boys and girls we are approaching the tipping point. The only thing missing is the sport so if there was a legal streaming package for football I would be away!

Well, it is free month and they're just starting so licencing and all needs to be got in this country now. But they will be up against more than just Lovefilm. There's Sky with Sky Anytime+, Virginmedia's VOD service.

Looking at the US catalogue, 14,000 titles and over, lots of TV stuff. Lots of WWE content etc as well, have to see if the catalogue or if Netflix really wants to get top of the UK for content over here.

Movies are fine but also getting TV show rights will be good as well, something to make maybe Sky drop their use Sky ISP for their Anytime+ service which if Netflix does gain ground and become a threat, sky may have to.

Wish I could afford vpn service as yes, the content over there is huge. -.-
CTD101 who works for Sky wrote "Anytime+ will be rolled out to other isp's and is currently going through more staff testing."

In this thread regarding Sky changes 2012.

Very impressed for saying that it is still early days, however at the moment I’m using it to supplement love film rather than replace it.

On a different note, I want to finally watch this content on my TV rather than just my laptop, I’m thinking possibly a Samsung smart tv as I believe these have love film, nextflic and iplayer apps? But will these services be a bit pixel vision on a 37inch LED screen?

Watched Netflix from my PS3. Brilliant quality was like watching a normal show on TV.

Or there's the 360... Still has Netflix and Lovefilm but you can get other audio/visual content from Zune and get sports through the Sky Player. Get the media remote controller for a tenner and you're laughing. And you can play games on it.

They you have to pay the Sky subscription. What Im looking forward to is if the streaming happens you can follow your own club and get all there fixtures.

Only legal way of doing that is by paying...

Fairly certain AppleTV isn't capable of going via any shady routes... For that you'd need to hook a Mac/PC up to your telly but that's not for discussing on here...

i found the Ps3 ok, have to use the controller and not the remote mind you, saying that I have not tried the remote on netflix, so it may work ok, rubbish with iplayer.

The only thing that annoys me is that the game controller goes to sleep after a certain amount of time, so i want to pause to make a coffee or take a phone call and wondering why on earth it is not working and then remember that it gone to sleep.

If I stayed with netflix, then I also got my lovefilm subscription of two DVds/bluerays a month, i would keep that as the blue-ray quality is far better than anything i would get from streaming and also Lovefilm optical media library is far better than any streaming library, sorry but it is.

i got out from Lovefilm, life after people, not on netflix and not on lovefilm streaming either.
I got a letter yesterday to confirm that my T.v licence will be invalid by the end of the month, so I could use part of the money I would pay for a T.v licence for netflix and use the BBc Iplayer for the odd thing I watch, which is very few and far between.

Not sure if we are approaching the tipping point or not, until you can watch your coronation street or eastenders using once service ot at least one box that does it all, then we are a long way from the tipping point. Then as you point out, sport, that will not go VOD, sure you get a few highlights and stuff like that, but how often would a main football match be on VOD?

I could be wrong here as I don't watch or have any interest in football, but I do like motor racing and was not impressed when the BBc allowed Sky to get their grubby hands on the F1 Grandprix, which is why I told them to shove their licence.

Nothing on the the BBc now that I can't get from elsewhere.

I don't watch that much t.v or video for that matter, I prefer to read and use my computer, in the summer I will be outside more than in, I hope. But i do like to relax now and again and watch a video and yes a streaming service would be ideal for that.

the problem is with all these streaming services, in fact I can see two problems at least.

We still relying on a broadband structure that is flaky and so many variables that you may end up with no service one day due to net problems, also a lot of people still can't get a decent broadband speed or even broadband at all. Fibre will help in some places and around here at least in the villages there is a wireless system that offers pretty good speed, but it is not cheap, it is not extortionate, but not cheap.

The second problem is that if people like myself decide to get rid of the T.v licence and use streaming for their video entertainment, how long will it be before we need a licence to even connect to the internet because the BBc losing money>?

You used to have to pay Ms for using their online service, it seems now you can use it for free,

360 don't have Blueray, and too unreliable unless they sorted out their ring of death, which I don't think they have, because someone at work a couple of weeks ago said their X-box have got a ring of death and it is only just over 12 months old.

Of all the people I know that got a Ps3, only one have had one go belly up and that was a old one, you can tell how old, it had the card slots on.

i must admit I am not that fond of the slimline PS3 to be honest, a bit tacky and cheap looking.

Tried the app on Xbox 360, PS3 and iPad and only had some problems with the PS3 version refusing to connect and having to restart the apps a few times. Must admit, I'm very impressed with their rollout of this service.

The Xbox will definatly be my main source for Netflix, especially with Kinect voice controls. Don't have to worry that the controller has gone to sleep.

@noise747 The RROD problem was sorted out ages ago and it certainly isn't an issue with the Slim model. A Gold account still costs money though and is needed for all these services, but it's really worth it (less than the price of a game).

Just sat and watched Open Season 3 through Netflix on my ps3 the quality said X-High HD when pressing select , I have to say I'm backtracking here the PQ is excellent for a streaming service if the library was to vastly improve especially movies I would consider cancelling Sky Movies , I'm on a Sky BB 9mb connection for anyone interested.

That's annoying, our new living room TV is a D5520, how can Netflix not support that when LoveFilm does?

We have an old 360 Premium in the living room with a silver live account and cannot use Netflix because it requires a Gold membership!! Typical Microsoft ripping you off all the time.
