ITA, quality was darn impressive, better than DVD. I actually have LoveFilm trail too and Im not sure if I just have a slow connection tonight but I tried LoveFilm tonight for first time and it basically started freezing and buffering every 10 secs and then after 2 mins it just threw me out to the previous window. Netflix on the other hand was pretty flawless, noticed a little juddering for a few seconds in one scene, but other than that it played perfectly for the rest of the movie. Now if only Netflix could buy out LoveFilm

silverlight is a load of rubbish on windows never mind a MAC, It is so bad the even Ms is not going to develop it any more, which makes me wonder why Netflix and Lovefilm uses it.

I had to download it to watch something, which I still not watched yet.

Is the TV set as the only screen when you connect the laptop i.e. the computer screen is blank.

Netflix works fine with Chrome from my experience.

If you go the end of this thread, they say to enable the Aero desktop in Windows - http://forums.silverlight.net/t/52514.aspx/1

and in that thread there's mention of changing a setting in the graphics driver as well, which may help.

thanks sorted that one out!

one more question...... is it right that when playing some movies, the black bars at the top and bottom are so big..... that only about a third of my tv screen is filled with a slither of picture?

Is there a good choice of foreign films?

Does it look any better if you use Firefox, then press F11 to run full screen, then when the movie is running, click on the Full Screen button in Netflix?

Watched an episode of the young ones and doc. The king of kongs last night, no streaming problem. I used my Wii and easy to use.

You mean the films are shown in the screen ratio they were filmed in?

I don't know!

if they were filmed on a little slither of the screen about the size of a piece of duct tape... then yes

When I watch movies on TV or get them on blu-ray or DVD they usually pretty much fill the screen. (or have small bars top + bottom)
Id much prefer that!

Bollywood aplenty but extremely sparse in others.

No Dutch that I could see or German.

A few Spanish and French.

Asian/Korean.

A film about Tesla,so I guess that Serbian.

If you're watching older movies that were filmed in CinemaScope, then yes. A lot of CinemaScope movies are cropped on bluray and dvd.

Some CinemaScope movies have ratios as high as 2.66:1. To put it into simple terms, that's 24:9, not 16:9. Most are at 2.35:1 though, (21:9).

Interesting....there's some movies on Netflix which can only be watched on Lovefilm's streaming service via PPV.

Take Blitz for example:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1297919/

Blitz on Netflix: Included in £5.99 monthly charge
Blitz on Lovefilm: £3.49 via PPV on top of streaming charge.

£3.49? that is expensive, this is another problem I have with streaming services, not everyone wants or need a subscription,

You might just want to have the odd video say for the weekend. the problem is the services that offer a Pay for what you watch service charges way over the top.

I thought blinkbox would be good, but not only is it a pain to use on the PS3, but they are also charging £3 or more for a video, ok they have got some free ones. I would pay a quid, maybe £1.50, considering there is no actual storage needed for these videos, charging the same rental as a local Blockbusters is mad.

Bring prices down and give people the choice of subscription or not and maybe streaming might get somewhere. At least Netflix do make it easy to unsubscribe and resubscribe and no contract

One of the advantages of blinkbox (although I confess I have never used it) is that if you link your Tesco Clubcard to the account or buy a DVD/Blu Ray from them, you automatically get the streaming version throughthe web/Xbox/PS3 etc.

Think thats pretty cool, but obviously you have to spend £10 or so on a physical copy of the film too.

Yes, that appears to be the case so most modern films are in a widescreen format.

The Oscar winning 'The Lives of Others' is German and available to watch.

This is exactly what AppleTV provides. Though to make it any good you need to set up a US iTunes account...

But some of the films on netflix are ridiculous. I can see the point of widescreen, but when about 60% of my tv screen is just black, I dont feel as if i can see anything properly as it just looks like its been squeezed into a small strip in the middle
