Right, so Netflix launches a service in this this country and people are using their US version. fine if you know how to do it or can be bothered to do it, but surely it would be ideal for Netflix to get the content over here. Maybe they should have sorted out all the legal stuff before they launched here. Another company that is in too much of a rush.

I rarely use my PS3 for games, its a glorified smart blu ray player to me, that is not to say it does not do its job well. I am just not really a console gamer. When it has had its day I would most likely get a smart blu ray player to replace it

I am still loving Netflix. The quality of the audio and picture and the near instant streaming is awesome.

I am sure the content will get better over time.

I can see your viewpoint in some respects but actually it has nothing to do with user base, Netflix have stated on many occasions that they simply can not compete with Sky, and SKy has and will continue to have the muscle to control all of "first watch" programming, Netflix are trying to get into the "second watch" market, hence the price point..

The unfortunates facts are if Netflix had launced at £30 a month nobody would of joined, but the reality is to take on Sky in this country it would have to charge a heavy premium as people pay Sky so much money they own everything from Movies to Sport etc....

you can blame sucessive goverments for letting them run wild, but until there is a big shift Sky will continue wo win all the licences, and Netflix have admitted that...

so that is why we all join the USA version so we get a "Sky" package but for Netflix price.

As Aeschylus points out Sky have a stangehold on first run content and have exclusive deals in place with all the studios. To get in a bidding war before even launching would have been a very expensive and very risky move, so they have chosen to target a slightly different market in the UK, focusing on TV and older movies, at least initially. When the MD (or CEO) was here for the UK launch, he openly said that down the line they would be interested in bidding/competing with Sky for rights.

As for not having US content, well the content will never be identical (at least for the forseeable future) as the rights are often sold on a country by country basis so until providers like Netflix can buy worldwide rights the content will always be whats available locally and a lot of US content can be exclusively tied into existing deals. The whole streaming market is also relatively new, so sometimes even studios don't always have the rights to sell shows and movies to the likes of Netflix in the UK or US as additonal rights holders (music and copyright right holders) haven't allowed these shows to become available (a bit like the Beatles/EMI withholding the Beatles back catalog from iTunes for years) or have only agreed them for the US, etc.

so we are screwed then, no point in paying money for content that is not there, not everyone wants to muck about with DNS servers.

So the best thing is for me to stay with my DVDs from lovefilm, at least I got more content and stuff i want to watch.

Typical of this country to let one company take the lot, they did it with Bt and been screwed by Bt ever since.

Hardly much mucking about involved with inputting a total of 26 digits into your device or router and paying about £3.20 a month to use it after the trial period.

I'd rather lose the quality and still watch without buffering than have buffering.

Sounds like you wouldn't use this or any other streaming service anyway.

Just got the 60 day lovefilm trial on top of the netflix trial.

Netflix is far superior in every way, including HD of course, but lovefilm has some interesting things on there. Some obscure British films on there I want to have a look at but for some strange reason they don't have a "British" section under either the "Genres" or "Collections" tabs.

They did it with F1 I remember all the protests, people going nuts, but Money talks and F1 like all the rest went to who pays them the most, and generally dont give a crap about bringing to the masses...

We are caught in a nasty triangle, Sky have to win all these licences so they can justify the sub fees...

I remember when they won the last round of Football they were made to sell some matches to ITV and BBC etc, but none of them wanted them as the price was stupid high....

With no competition this is the result....either pay £50 a month so TV or dont, and then all the film makers moan about piracy... they just dont get it.

you can look at changing your DNS one of two ways, either Yes it is a pain in the ass, or do what I did just get one device with the DNS change on, for me that was the WDTV Live Streaming box.. £79 @ Amazon, Dabs, a simple change of your DNS in that box and it is a 1 min job, you have the best content for under a tenner a month

I agree with Legz,we are not impressed by the "Search" facility not "browse" facility you mention

Unless the search facility improves after you log in ( I have not actually started the free trial ) and I am simply using the main home page and choosing the browse selection

Is there an actual search function when logged in ?

This might be a bit of a dumb question but here goes anyway.

I have got the 1 month trial of Netflix, and am fairly happy with the content that is on the UK site, and will probably keep the subscription going. I have been reading the posts here about Unblock US, I think I am going to give their one week trial a go. I have been using my PS3 as my Netflix streamer, is there any way to get both the UK and US content working on the PS3. Not to be watched at once obviously, but just so I was able to have both selections available. Say if I was to have 2 separate user accounts on the PS3, one streaming US content and one UK?

Yes there's a search function.
I'm getting more used to and like the more you rate the more you see as I get to see things I probably would not of searched for.

You can easily switch between the two.
Select manual DNS for US content and Auto DNS for UK content.

Depends if that will affect anything else, anyway I use open DNs, so changing the DNS will affect that.

I understand what you mean, buffering is a pain.

Not after the trial I doubt. Lovefilm disk rental does what I want to be honest. If I had netflix I would use it too much until I watched everything i want to watch. with lovefilm DVd rental I can only use it when i get a disk.

Don't talk to me about F1, it is the only thing apart from Dr who that I really watched on T.V, and it is the main reason I have cancelled my t.V licence. Not worth paying for the BBC when there is very little that keeps me interested on it.

Just more money again to buy another bit of tack to go under the T.V, mind you come next week and there will be two less bits of tack under the T.v, mainly the two PVRs will be disconnected and put away.

I don't know how but I somehow managed to find my way onto US netflix and the content on this compared to the UK is unbeatable! I don't want to close the window incase I lose it and go back to UK netflix.
Here's a screenshot I just took: https://twitter.com/#!/lmddawson/sta.../photo/1/large

You just have buy US itunes vouchers on ebay after that.”

i have set up an iTunes us account no problem and logged into this on my apple tv. Seems to be working as the iTunes store is now US on the apple tv.

However netflix is still looking like the UK version.

I have restarted the apple tv, logged out and back in to netflix but with no joy?

Do I need to create a new netlfix account now?

Any guidance appreciated.

Thanks,

Missed this when you posted it, is it really that simple ?

If I understand correctly by just changing the DNS settings on the Wii I can view the US service on that console and the UK service on the Xbox with the same account details ?

If its the same as the PS3, then yes it really is that simple

Mine just runs on the US site now, and without paying any extra money to the likes of unblock us
