Anyone got one of these Roku boxes yet for streaming Netflix? Any good?

The cheap version the LT seems to have vanished from Amazon. However the XS version is now available for a rather steep £99.99:

Apple TV is a better investment as it is great for netflix but once jailbroken can do way more.

Nope, afraid not.
They stream on their own HBO Go service.

Can't find it in stock anywhere.

Amazon out, quoting 1-2 months for dispatch. Forget that.

Locally Argos, PC World and Currys are all out of stock!

Apple TV rather than Roku? (seeing as you're replying to Gormond's post about Apple TV)

It's in stock at... Apple

http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/hom...amily/apple_tv

Amazon does have it... but only via the Marketplace for slightly more than the normal price:

Worth trying John Lewis/Waitrose. They do pretty well on Apple stock, I got mine from there a few weeks ago.

And I want to watch Bollywood films because I enjoy them! (@noise747). Thanks for the pointers of those with subtitles.

I'm pretty sure SKY have the HBO licence and I doubt they will give it up since they are releasing their own streaming only service soon.

Not very user friendly if I have to turn on the PC to check out all titles. I know many users watch via computer, but their main target audience is surly viewers who want to watch films directly on their TV.

Example.
Netflix HORROR section via my Wii shows 51 films available unless I then search by title.

LoveFilm HORROR section via Sony BDPS370 Bluray shows 381 titles available. I can use search OR scroll through each title with thumbnail images.

My opinion was just stating that where Netflix have a choice of standard Netflix launch screen or Netflix for Kids, it would seem a good solution to have an additional choice of launcher where ALL films were listed per genre and perhaps rename the current one Netflix Suggestions or similar.

I believe that Netflix would give users a better experience if we could browse through all available titles. I have watched many films via LoveFilm that I had never heard of before just because they caught my attention from browsing through. It would also show people that they have a larger selection of titles available than many people think.

Netflix and LoveFilm (disk via post / games) are different and there is room for both, but competition from Sky will arrive soon and I think that Sony's Crackle will improve and become available via more devices.

2012 will be an interesting year for streaming TV.

These are just my opinions”

Yeh, why on earth does every different platform have a different take on how films are displayed. I spent quite a while going through my LoveFilm rental list adding them to the 'watch now/instant queue' thingy to queue them up, only to find that this isn't on the PS3 Netflix app - really annoying.

I would really like a complete alphabetical or date-ordered list within each category. Why on earth don't they have this?

this is a problem, If I want to watch anything then I find it on my computer and then search for it on the PS3. Easier way to do it.

they don't just pay for those channels, they pay for other channels as well, but would people pay just for ITV? I not so sure they will, but then again this is Britain and people will pay for anything.

Ergo the great illusion that is the 'value' of pay TV. For all but sports and movie fans, I challenge anyone to tot up what they watch most, on which channels and then work out whether £40-£50 / mth is worthwhile. The proper way to do this is to keep a viewing diary, rather than rely on your memory, which may tell a different story. The only thing which potentially changes this value equation is Sky Atlantic.

I went through this exercise a couple of years back and very quickly concluded that sacking Sky, buying a Freesat box and taking out a Lovefilm subscription would maintain the balance between what I watch most (subscription free) with an occasional top up of premium content. Obviously there's the upfront investment in a set-top box which you'd otherwise get from Sky for free, but after a year or so, you've saved a bundle.

You could be right, i know for certain that what my next door neighbour pay for their Sky and what they get out of it is way over the top.

you can only watch one channel at a time.

I done that exercise a few years back when I had sky, realised with all the repeats and the stuff i did not watch it was not worth paying for. i also done the same thing over the last few months, how often i watch T.v, which is why I cancelled my T.v licence.

the other problem i had with Sky is that every time we had a heavy rain storm I lost the signal, if i kept to watching T.v and got a Freesat box, I would still have the same problem,

Ive stuck with it, they took payment yesterday.
I just want them to hurry up with getting it on UK Bravia devices like the US already have. In the meantime viewing through Wii and an odd TV episode on iPhone.
I've also taken up the Lovefilm Instant 30 day trial using my Bravia device which at the moment Netflix comes out on top so far. If Lovefilm can improve their library of TV content and also stay at £4.99 then I may be tempted to switch.

For fans of Nordic crime drama I have noticed that the entire 26 episode run of the Krister Henrikkson version of Wallander is now available (it probably was before but hadn't spotted it). That's very good value as the DVD's are about £120 to buy as a set.

The UK Branagh version is also on there and in HD.

Loving netflix, though I must admit it has got me addicted to '24'. So much so that I have exhausted the 4 seasons available on netflix and ironically have now had to take out a lovefilm subscription just so that I can watch the DVD's of seasons 5 to 8 -
