Why would MS ban you?

Unblock-US does not make you appear to be in the US for everything, just for certain services such as Netflix. I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't know why they would but they seem to be strict on any kind of messing around on Xbox live. Guess if they give you the option to change DNS settings they can't punish you for changing them.

It seems like Netflix have stop people from the UK acessing the us site, I can't get it from either the Wii or PS3 and someone I know also having the same problem.

Mmm, I know legally we are not suppose to access the US version, but I think Netflix could lose a few customers doing this as most people I know that got netflix only got it for that reason.

UK content is still pretty poor, to be honest.

Do you pay for Unblock-US?

There is a proxy server you could use to watch tvcatchup in Spain and Portugal, Expatshield but tvcatchup caught on after a couple of years and blocked it, perhaps netflix has blocked unblock?

Still works on my Wii.
Do you pay Unblock-US to use thier DNS server?

I've just tested Netflix US on my PS3 (using Unblock-US, which I pay for) - still works for me too.

Just to add to the posts above, if you do find your having login issues even with a payed unblock-us subscription then if you goto unblock-us.com and click on 'Check Service' all should resume as normal.

I just had to re-login to Netflix on the PS3, possibly related? Working fine though (unblock-us subscriber).

They won't need to block Unlock US or any other unblocking service, they just need to prevent UK accounts from accessing US material.

They know your account is a UK account and they know the material you are trying to watch is not available in the UK so it would be very easy for them to prevent it.

You could then of course signup on the Netflix US site.

I'm looking to sign up to Netflix and Unblock-US, but just wanted to know how easy it would be to switch back and forth between the UK and US versions. I would be using a PS3/iPad if this makes any difference. Apologies if this has already been asked

I doubt they'd do that. Netflix actually advertises the fact that you can "roam" with it, and watch other content when in another country.

Very easy. Just change your DNS back to normal to return to Netflix UK.

Not at the moment, i can't see how they would know if you paid while using a a games console.

If it is just the fact that I have not paid then that is fine I will start paying, I got no problem with that, but need to make sure first before I start forking out.

someone I been chatting to online also had the problem and got in touch with Netflix and Netflix told them that they have stopped people in the UK from accessing the US netflix.

Not sure how true that is.

They know because they log your IP address going through their server.

Try this
Quote:
“ Before you start:

Netflix and most of other protected content may not work on WD players sold outsde of North America. Unfortunately this is physical limitation of the player (missing DRM-compatible chip) and there is nothing we can do about it.
New models of WD TV Live players (3rd generation) won't even show US apps on models made for other countries.
This instruction can work for devices sold in US

*
On WD TV Live, go to*Settings > Network settings > Network setup and select "Automatic"
Wait until WD TV obtains IP address and other settings from the router (if it can't then find connection problem and try again)
Open again*Settings > Network settings > Network setup and select "Manual"
Scroll down to DNS row at the bottom and press "Enter"
Set following numbers in DNS field:
208.122.23.22
Press "Submit" >*"Finish" > "OK"
Turn off device with power button on the remote
Wait ten seconds
Turn it back on
*
IMPORTANT:
*
To activate the service, in addition to WD TV you need setup at least one computer (iPad, iPod and iPhone can be used as well) with our DNS and click on the "Check Serivce" on our home page.”

Those instructions are out of date but the general method is correct. Your on-screen options will look slightly different, but you should be able to figure it out.

Yes do it after you sign up for the Unblock Us trial.

what about if you got a dynamic IP number? Mine is static so I can understand how I could be stopped, but the other person is on sky broadband which is dynamic and stillhave the same problem.

I going to phone my mate up in a bit and see if he is having the same problems and then decide from there.

I'm on sky and started getting blocked this weekend (ps3). Last time I was blocked I just entered a different email address on the unblock us site for a new trial and it started working again. That may have worked again this time, but I just signed up for a subscription. As soon as I signed up the US netflix opened up again, so I'd be fairly confident that if you start paying it will solve your problem.

At the end of the day there's no getting around having to pay for a reliable connection to US Netflix.
If paying about 10p a day is an issue then maybe you should just stick with UK Netflix.
The guys at unblock-us.com have put a stop to freeloaders using their server using something that just knows its you and whether or not you've payed or not.
Try going to the site and click 'Check Service' and see what happens.
Also have a read at this link as you may be able to win free access http://thedoofa.com/

No,no, no, I just wanted to make sure that it was a Unblock Us thing and not netflix, my mate started paying last week, i have now started paying and all is well again, I can now get Netflix US again.

Most people like to get something for free if they can, I had 3 weeks out of it for free, so not complaining, also I can now access other stuff as well.

Not sure how these people with the Xbox is going to manage as they don't have a computer so it may be difficult for them to pay,
I suppose i could take my laptop up there if need be to get it sorted and to get them a paypal account. The Xbox got no browser.

Oh well, I am going to get some air in town for a bit. Day off today, so going to try and make the best of it.

Oh I see Its definately an UnblockUS thing as Netflix don't seem to mind.
On iPhone when you use the app you get a prompt telling you about roaming and that content may differ between countries of use.
