Surprised it has launched today, seen a few sites with rumours that it would launch January 9th but thought it was rubbish speculation.

Doesn't look much on there at the moment. I know it's early days but I doubt it'll steal many lovefilm customers as things stand

I am keeping a very close eye on the content as well because for me it has to be on par or almost as good as the USA content for me to ditch Netflix from the states.
Granted we get UK content as well but as I have Tivo that is a moot point anyway. |

Doing a quick cross comparison against my USA account and there is a lot of content missing however like I said it's early days and I read on the internet that they will be announcing more studio's which will/have be signed up in the near future.
I don't think netflix will stop until they have all the studios on board and competition is a good thing. |

At least it is easy to cancel online, the problem with lovefilm is that you got to phone them, which is a bit strange from a company that main business is online. i suppose it is so they can try and talk you into staying.
Saying that I am staying put with Lovefilm. i have also noticed with Netflix is that the only way you can contact them is by having a account to start with, not good for people who have not yet decided and want to ask a question. |

Well what do they have? If I can't watch first run films way before their dvd release I'll stick to the "Jolly Roger" solution.

main thing I am interested in is if Netflix do deals to show US tv shows that nobody in the UK is showing (e.g. The Office season 6, Breaking Bad season 3 onwards etc etc)

![]() On the other hand, the Netflix app for Iphone and Ipad has appeared in the UK Itunes store, and I can confirm that Netflix content streams to an Iphone over 3G here. The notes on the app on the Itunes website say that "video out" has been enabled for Ipad and Iphone. Not sure whether that means that if you have one of those you could use Airplay to stream via an Apple TV - not at home at the moment. Overall though this is very good news - the TV content available for streaming is streets ahead of that on Lovefilm, including all the Eccleston/Tennant era of Doctor Who, Spooks seasons 1-7, Shameless from the start, all of Morse and Lewis, the first two seasons of Misfits, all of The Inbetweeners and Little Britain etc plus US series such as all of 24 and Heroes. A long way to go, sure, but a good start IMHO.

Just looked those up for you.
1-3 Breaking Bad 1-5 The Office (US) So wouldnt be that good. season 3 breaking bad would be really good, I think generally if Netflix does enough deals and has enough US tv content I would seriously consider getting it |

Disappointing if that stays the case, since Apple TV certainly has Netflix in the US, but it is not mentioned on the Netflix UK website.

I think I'll sign up today. Because I'm a massive idiot and never check these things, I was, till just now, paying Lovefilm £9.99 a month even though I never actually rented DVD's, just streamed the occasional film. Lovefilm love keeping quiet about any price changes, just checked, the streaming only option is £4.99 a month so I've changed to that, adding Netflix will just bump the price up to what I was paying anyway.
Can't seem to see the iPad app for it yet though.. |

To my mind, also, the Netflix catalogue is a lot easier to navigate for streaming content than that of Lovefilm - not least, of course, because all of what they offer (in the UK) is streaming only.
With Lovefilm, for example, you can either search for, say, TV content OR search for stuff which is available to watch now - not both at the same time. As with everything else, I expect both offerings to improve in coming months - competition is a good thing. |
