Why has this happened to my Samsung Galaxy S2?

Hi guys and girls,

I stupidly rooted my Samsung Galaxy s2 the other day and obviously regretted it immediately. I had installed an unofficial Kernal which i have now removed but during the rooting process the screen became slanted to the right. I have installed a number of kernals but have not been able to restore the natural calibration of the screen. In addition, the kernal I am running isn't the one supplied by T-mobile for the UK. How can I restore the official kernal for my handset? finally does anyone know how I can sort out the screen issue?

This has nothing to do with rooting it or the kernel. What rom is it your using?

Which website did you get the ROM from with which you flashed your phone? What was it called? Was it one of these:

Can you do a screengrab of the 'about phone' info in settings? Would make identifying the rom easier, also did you backup your old rom before installing the new one?

Slanted to the right? Strange. There is a Desire S ROM where the screen slants when the phone slants. Silly question but you are holding the phone up straight are you?

Tap the left hand side button, tap settings then scroll down to about phone. If you can list the software build and the kernel version and the rom version.

I don't want to lose all my data again but I will try it if it works. However, as i am not using the original software I really need the official T-Mobile software first i think. Any ideas where I might be able to get that?

Scroll down to the bottom and they've got three versions of the stock T-Mobile ROM for UK S2s.. however, there's three versions there, BOKE3, the BOKG2 and BOKF3.. I'm not sure which one you should try!

BOKG2 because that's what I had before

Looking at your earlier screenshot I'd suggest it's the BOKG2 version, but I can't be sure. That's the one I'd try first anyway!

Everything is working ok but the gap between the notifications bar and the rest of the screen is bigger on the left hand side than the right hand side. Think leaning tower of pizza but with a mobile phone screen.

Edit: if you have a straight line on the screen and look at it from left it is actually going up as it goes across the screen.

I didn't - I have a screen protector and super durable cover which would have sustained the impact if I had dropped it. I really think it has something to do with the root that I did. The screen works fine, every aspect of the screen works but it just isn't straight which makes me think it must be a software issue. The funny thing is, it almost looks like the display (the actual allocated area) isn't straight either which makes me think I'm starting to go crazy.

Hmmm, in that case I'm stumped.

I know you've done the firmware reinstallation, but it might be worth doing a kernel reinstallation from the files on that website too. It suggest that they're only to revert the kernel back to normal post-rooting. If that doesn't work then I don't know.

If I were in your shoes and that hadn't worked, I'd try one more time to root and install a custom ROM to see if it is a software issue. If not, then you might have to contact T-Mobile.

I'm convinced it's a kernel issue though; looking back you said at the start that's the only thing you fiddled with, and we all assumed you meant the firmware!
