Must be Columbia taking charge as I don't recall Joe doing this, ooh he's playing the Hammersmith Apollo classy venue.

Starlight is the next single & video

Now you know people are going to be watching to see how many tickets he sells.

Exactly

Are those venues big enough to handle such a credible artist?

The way he was playing with his toes made me feel a bit nauseous

I'm not sure why people think 'Starlight' is going to be a massive No.1 hit though.

(And the OP's jibe at poor little Joe was unnecessary).

Was it? - But its true!

The more likely difference is that after his first week album sales, Matt is still in with a shot of making his current deal work. Joe's contract might as well have been tossed in the bin as soon as the first midweeks appeared.

Is it a tour or a pub crawl? Some of those venues sound suspiciously like ale houses. I hope they're not big ale houses.

Joe never got any support or marketing from Syco from the start. They were completely awful to him, and he deserves a whole lot better than shite Syco.

And good for Joe for ending it with Syco as it allows him to go to Universal, which is showing how shite Syco was with Universal's success with Joe, selling out tour and Festival of Remembrance.

It is also telling that Leona and Alex never got a tour this quickly --- Leona waiting 3 years and Alex 2 years.

Remember Matt is an ALBUMS artist. He'll sell millions of albums.

*checks album chart*

Like I say, Matt is a LIVE artist. He'll sell millions of tickets.

A quick tour for Matt is hardly a sign of confidence. They waited for Leona and Alex to tour, because they had confidence they'd still have a fanbase to attend any tour 2 or 3 years later.

They are announcing a tour for Matt at this stage, because this might be as succesful and popular as he's ever going to get, so it's best to try and sell a few tickets now. In a year's time, it's very possible there'd be zero interest in any sort of Matt Cardle tour.

I think we are going to see a return to the old days, where X-Factor winners stop waiting so long for allbum releases and tours. You can only get away woth that with certain acts of high potential, like Alex or Leona.

If Craig or Marcus were to win, they should seriously consider having an album out by Feburary/March, because I don't think the interest would remain strong in them after a 10 month wait.

Was actually thinking that, because his tour was announced as soon as his sales figures was released by the OCC.

It's a good strategy, it keeps his fans happy.

I'm not saying it wasn't already planned, just when it was officially announced. It was actually the right the thing to do imo.

The policy of not allowing winners to tour after their first album was totally ridiculous. Touring helps develop performing skills, confidence, keep their name out there, is a good source of income, and keeps the fans happy.

That said, it's NOT the label that organise tours, it's the management company, and in all cases, Modest. Of course, Modest work closely with Syco and and I suspect that the idea that previous winners have to wait comes from Simon Cowell, may be to show off the winner as an arena tour artist straight away, but is outrageaously stupid in my opinion.
Someone like Leona missed out hugely by not touring at the peak of her popularity, particularly in America, imo. So did Alex and Joe...

Touring is a great opportunity for Matt, and since the label seems to be actively moving with the second single, fingers crossed he can build something from where he is at now.

I've always thought the whole waiting one year to make/release an album and even longer to to tour was absolutely loony, and I still do. While I think it worked with Spirit and Overcome, that still doesn't mean it's the best way to do things. I also think with Leona, while I can understand taking the time for her first album, waiting over three years for her to tour and keeping her almost completely out of the public eye apart from a few scattered TV appearances was awful and ridiculous. She could have at least played a few smaller venues and done some intimate shows for her fans during that time, but overall she has been shockingly inaccessible and I know I'm not the only one who has lost a lot of interest in her due to this, the news that her third album isn't being released until next March being the final nail in the coffin.

So I think they should strike while the iron is hot. It doesn't mean they have to rush out an album full of covers, but I don't see why they can't put together a decent album for the winner within a few months of the show ending with all the money Syco has. There is no excuse for them to keep going with the waiting game formula when it's proven it doesn't really work. Even Leona is struggling now, and Alex hasn't been as big as she should have.

I also think Matt/Columbia would have lobbied heavily for it as Matt's first love is performing live - and from the various accounts and videos I've seen of him with his band so far, he really is incredible. He would have gone stir-crazy if he couldn't tour - hopefully there will be another later on in the year

I honestly wonder if they care? Look at the way Shane was treated, I really think he could have been a massive success, if his career was handled the right way.

Got to agree with all this. I'm looking forward to seeing Matt perform although I wish his tour hadn't been announced on the MF which, having lurked for some time, seems very hostile to him! Fortunately, that isn't going to affect him or his career and I wish him every success,

I am convinced that SCowell started to ignore Shayne when it looked like Leona was a potential international superstar and he didn't see Shayne that way.
Imo, the way Shayne was treated was appalling. He is a good singer a good voice, he is good looking and he was selling albums. The problem was that he was never given a decent single... and then they waited three years to make him release subpar material. The whole thing stinks, imo..

They'd best be real ale houses as well.

They are, after all, the only credible ones.
