What was she thinking?

She gave Dexter a Britney Spears/Katy Perry, and then votes him off? She really let him down imo.

I have to agree RP - i actually was SHOCKED Dexter made the lives, like they could have put the lady through who sang Stop Crying your heart out, who was very good.

Did you like him InmyArms? I just thought he was terrible at Judges Houses (although a nice guy for sure)

I think the person let down the most was Phillip...

Astro boy needs to do us a favour and **** off...

Shame about Dexter, I hate these twists though, they are horrific.

To be fair, he probably was the worst boy on the night, but I'd have got rid of Astro to be fair... Phillip has so much more potential, I'd listen to his work.

I'm so sick of Rachel Crow as well, not liking this 12 year old age limit.

I'm officially jumping on the Josh K bandwaggon.

Josh is my total favourite along with Drew as well, want both of them in the final 3 and one of them the winner!

Thanks for that. I hadn't heard of this website before. Very well written, I must say. Love the subtle digs at well, everyone.

Definitely will be bookmarking it.

Lakoda Rain and Chris Rene are lucky to still be there if it had been judged on performances.

You could tell which acts were for the chop based on the staging. It was all set up to look like the judges were making fair and sensible decisions. I wouldn't be surprised if the acts were told ahead of time. The schedule was tight so no way were deliberations being done on the spot. Although there was a disclaimer at the end that portions of the broadcast that did not affect the outcome had been edited.

The vibe I got was they tried out Dexter as a joke candidate and found him too one dimensional and not quick enough on his feet verbally. The other three in his category were too strong vocally to justify his presence so he became expendable. It was an interesting contrast with him and Leroy stood there together. A down on his luck tribute act, and a middle class songwriter. I think this was the show saying they are comfortable with anybody who wants to audition competing for the five million dollar prize if they have something to offer, no matter who they are or if they've had a chance before. They picked Leroy because he's more talented, and maybe contestants his age ought to have a track record in the industry if they're to be taken seriously. Dexter's comments at the end belied a cynicism at the process he's agreed to play along with. He'll get bookings now he wouldn't have easily got before so it's hard to say he's been exploited too much.

Simone clearly got put through on her looks and they saw she couldn't back it up in the time they had to work with her. Tiah looks like another they wanted to develop as a performance character, but there wasn't enough range to her voice. I think Simon has the right three girls. In some ways the twists last week disguise the real cut, which was determining who to push as the young woman with the biggest voice. Jazlyn and the others lost out. I actually think Melanie is too nasal and don't like her vocal tone despite the size of her voice and it's technical range. It's not quite first rate. Maybe they saw that too then equivocated on not having that type of singer still there and found a gimmick to push her with by bringing her back.

The Brewer Boys were damn lucky to be there in the first place but I thought they were better this week than the dull girl group who are nothing special at all. It was interesting the ten kids how they drew out a couple to feature. Contrast that with Rachel Crow on a platform with backing dancers and singers. You wonder what the point is with a group that size, and whether any of them individually stands out as much as Rachel, and if so, whether she ought to be part of a smaller group with them. I see those two acts undermining each other as it almost looks like a contradiction and a conflict of interests hedging with both.

Philip was unlucky because Chris really seemed exposed and did not give a good performance at all. His rapping was worse than the little kid who is actually pretty good. And his singing is worse than Philip but Philip was given a novelty act to excuse much hand wringing over letting him go. I guess they chose Marcus as the best young male singer over the others eliminated last week. Not sure they need two hip hop acts but perhaps it serves to bridge between rap and singing with Chris and elevate the fourteen year old. I gather Chris is a musician so perhaps that will be his thing later in the competition if he plays some instruments.

I do wonder if the filler acts knew they were just signing on to a one shot gig to get some exposure and let the judges spotlight the top twelve while they made the first week cuts. The production has known who their 12 are and this lets the audience see everybody perform in this setting before the voting begins. They can study the reactions and not have the wrong person thrown under a bus in week one before they know the lay of the land.

I think they played it quite straight and there were no egregiously silly decisions. Vocal ability was put before other considerations for the most part which is why you see Dexter and Tiah reaching the end of their run. Although they're a bit more invested in some acts than others and so things were presented in such a way to make the choices look as proper as possible. Lakoda Rain and Chris didn't perform particularly as well as the script required but I'm not especially outraged that they'd get another chance.

Sort of on the fence about seeing Drew as the favourite. There's a nice tone to her voice and she's mature for her age and connects well with the emotion of the lyric. But she's going to give the same performance every single week as far as I can tell. I'd rather listen to her than Melanie though.
