There was a thread last week on "Covers better than the originals" and although the first post mentioned the Beatles, it (quite rightly) drifted into all sorts of bands. The Beatles were however the most covered band in the history of popular music.

Right, for mine,"Revolver" is the best album in the world, ever and two songs from that were covered by Emmylou Harris, both of them IM(not very)HO, miles better than the originals.

So my top five Beatles covers are:

"Here,There and Everywhere" - Emmylou Harris
"For No One" - Emmylou Harris
"Not a Second Time" - Robert Palmer
"Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight" - Jackson Browne/Jennifer Warnes
"If I Fell" - Reba McCintyre

Maybe not the best, but some more that come to mind:

Oo-bla-di-oh-bla-da by Marmalade
Revolution by The Thompson Twins
Money by... oh God, what were they called? 'The Flying Lizards'? Something like that.

Money is a tune originally by Barrett Strong, which makes the Beatles version a cover itself. Flying Lizards version was good though.

"I Am the Walrus" by Oasis (I think I said that on the other thread)
"With a Little Help From My Friends" by Joe Cocker (though John Belushi's impersonation of him was better)

Worst: "She's Leaving Home" by Billy Bragg. I love Billy Bragg but he just murdered that song.

Funniest: "A Hard Day's Night" by Peter Sellers, in the style of William Shakespeare's "Richard the Third"

I keep hearing about William Shatner's version of "Lucy in the Sky", but have not yet actually heard the track itself.

Oh well, at least I got the name of the cover band right!

Something tells me that Rod Stewart did a cover of 'Get Back'.

Please Please Me by David Cassidy is another.

William Shatner's version of "Lucy in the Sky" is awesome.
And his "Common People" cover rocks!

Jason Falkner did a great album called "Bedtime with the Beatles" which is a load of Beatles tracks redone in a really mellow, soothing "send baby to sleep" kinda way.

Sellers also did a version of help and yes rod stewart did do a version of get back which was featured in a movie called all this and world war 2 the soundtrack of which consisted of cover versions of beatles songs.

By a long long way the best Beatles cover is "Daytripper" by Otis Redding.

I always liked the Help cover, where they are standing with flags doing semaphore, spelling out "Help"

"All this and World War II" a soundtrack album of Beatles covers for a film? which, as far as I know never got made.

Some excellent covers by Bryan Ferry, The Bee Gees, Leo Sayer, Roy Wood, Peter Gabriel etc. etc. and a fantastically overwrought version of Michelle by Richard Cocciante, who I'd never heard of before or since.
