The plan is to count tweets as votes. If they brought that system over here, it would lead to a loss of revenue for them. Voting is free in the US.

They are allowed major product placements and get massive sums for it. Also (although don't quote me on it) I believe it's illegal for American programmes to charge for voting/competitions ect.
