Archos 10.1 G8 8Gb for £129 at HMV
Quite a bargain, I know G9 are imminent but good savings on a decent tablet - appeared briefly on line yesterday - but available in store today - limited stocks I think

I'm not really up with tablet specs and what's coming out when, but presumably this is not running Honeycomb - the Archos 10.1 advertised on Amazon at £175 is only running 2.2. Is that because it's G8, i.e. obsolete stock?
Why aren't they carrying the latest version? |

Probably because it has 256mb of Ram. Honeycomb needs (at least) 512mb to run smoothly, also the Texas Instruments processor might not be compatible.
This is a far better deal: http://www.comet.co.uk/p/Tablets/buy...-Tablet/757373 512mb of ram. Though it isn't running Honeycomb (processor under-powered). The Advent Vega can be 'modded' very easily to run Honeycomb if you can stretch to another £100. |

From what I've read the Advent Vega has lots of probs , poor screens not just viewing angels but not working to touch properly, keys sticking on mains power some people onto their 6/7 due to problems and a new version due soon - lots of refurbs available so suggest that there are inherent issues - 3 month warranty doesn't give me peace of mind I'm afraid.
From my understanding the Archos 10.1 is better build quality than the arnova (achos budget range) and had more flexibility in terms of mods etc than the arnova or at least for now. It running Android 2.2 and full market is easily added Had a look at these in store and screen responsiveness was fine and viewing angles nowhere near as bad as what I have read, browsing was quick and a couple of demo games played well with decent sound from speakers. Full warranty I'm looking at purchase for the kids, few games, internet and videos (the 10.1 has greater range of file compatibility) so doubt there'll be much multi tasking to worry about |

The 101 is the lightest full size tablet in the world. If it stayed at near £150 but with a 1280 x 800 screen it would long be a travel gem.
I'm not sure if the Vega has any more problems than others such as the iPad. If you sell enough of the things, some always has problems. This being especially so with customisable Android. DIY putting the market on them too would increases the quirks. |

I had a play with one in Tesco and have to say the weak plasticy' comments are a load of bull.
Ultra thin, strong and stylish though it felt a bit too widescreen. |

Well after much deliberation I went out and managed to get a couple of these (though they were going fast) for my sons xmas presents and obviously had to test them out.
Really pleased with them wi fi easily set up and browsing a real pleasure video is good and audio better than that from my £600 Samsung laptop, the screen isn't an issue (I'm convinced the viewing angle thing has been blown out of all proportion) in my view and general speed of operation is more than adequate for my (er I mean the boys needs). Need to get full market install and start loading up with some games and videos for the boys. I'm well pleased and as far as I'm concerned quite a bargain at the price. |

"Oh and all those journalists blabbering on about how great the iPhone is are just making everything worse, for everyone:" I always recall that guy at the Guardian who slated the Samsung Galaxy Tab whilst giving a glowing review of what to me is a hapless Viewsonic ViewPad 7. Whilst I'm overly cynical this very often seems an unbalanced way of elevating halo products. Choosing thus has become a minefield. |

ArcTools is the best way.
Try this: http://www.appbrain.com/app/android-...arentalcontrol and then disable the Settings app so nothing can be changed. Android doesn't allow Admin accounts.

I recommend:

Flick Kick Football - Free
Angry Birds - Free
Angry Birds Rio - Free
Glow Hockey - Free
Angry birds is quite addictive ![]() update: Nintendo don't make games for Android. Can't find anything Star Wars or Dr. Who related. The above games are good though. |

Thanks - got that now. Have downloaded Twitter, iPlayer and TuneIn Radio, which is worth the price of the tablet alone!
Having trouble with Skype - can sign in but no video call facility. Any ideas? |
