Sold out now but I got the last one in store! Quite impressed! Just a quick one... my usb stick is not working when I put it in. I've read a few things about issues with these devices and the USB dying... anyone else had any issues?

Well had a fairly big one in that its now dead, had it for 2 weeks, about 6 re- charges, then let it run flat, now can not get a charge in!
Then read this user review-

The unit has a serious design flaw, which allows the inbuilt LI-ON battery to run down to 0% charge. Once the battery reaches 0%, it does not get charged again. I have tried a lot of CPR activities to bring the battery back to life (have also tried some posts in the archosfans website) but no use. As a result I have now returned my unit.
So be warned?

Thanks - got that now. Have downloaded Twitter, iPlayer and TuneIn Radio, which is worth the price of the tablet alone!

Having trouble with Skype - can sign in but no video call facility. Any ideas?
Skype doesn't work too good on Android. I have never seen a solution to this problem. And as Microsoft has bought Skype there probably will never be one.

Ouch, worth baring that in mind. I do like it though, don't really want to take it back! Just using Spotify on it currently. The touch screen varys in its sensitivity, starting to wonder if its due to how moist/dry your fingers are... sometimes its brilliant, someties terrible

A faulty battery no doubt in that one.
It certainly happens a heck of a lot with laptops batteries, especially those off ebay.

I thought Android has adjustable battery settings. Or is it just an app on some?

No just gives you warnings of low battery, and you can adjust the warning times, but I would treat the default 15 % warning level as the time to start a re- charge, just in case it could occur to you.

I re-charge a pair 900 Mah AAA that have fully dis-charged every day bought from the pound shop, still going after more than a year,ah well that's life.

Partner taking back to the Liverpool store on Monday, see what happens?

These are lithium.
If one faulty cell goes below minimum a safety circuit bricks the battery. They are supposedly designed to never go below that.

Yep, those 900mah no doubt Powercell batteries were surprisingly good when available.

I will probably get the Arnova 10 G2, seems to have better specs than the Archos 101. Is Arnova owned by Archos. Seem to be getting conflicting information. I have heard that Archos just license the designs.

Still can't make my mind up

Archos 101 or Arnova 10 G2

Have you just done a firmware update? It dies after that.

I updated it the day I got it, without checking if it worked first. Damn. I don't really want to take it back as I know they have no more in stock, and unlikely to give me a better replacement!

Its a nuisance, but to be honest I can live with it. Its not the best thing in the world (flash struggles), but to be honest, its been doing me fine today for spotify, facebook and basic browsing. Its not an iPad, but it also doesn't cost £400!

I would take it back and get this one

Seems like a better tablet, the same but with 1080p video support, 512mb RAM, No kickstand or HDMI though. Will have better performance for web browsing/flash.

Reserved one for pick up tomorrow! Thats insane, £20 more (£150), but that model in HMV is currently selling for £250!

Will be thoroughly chuffed if they actually have any in store at that price! I popped into HMV to see what they had replaced the 101 with, and was really impressed with that... lots of issues resolved, but the price tag put me off. For £150 I'm happy with that!

You got me curious about the differences.
Am sure it loses in many ways as well a gains.

More RAM, heavier, later Android version, no HDMI or bluetooth?

I mentioned that in an earlier post. If you have no requirement for HDMI or Bluetooth then this is the better choice. 1080p video decoding is a killer feature. It plays it perfectly.

It's a close call though . The Arnova just has the edge. And you're USB should keep working

Unless I read it wrong there is a Facebook hint that the old 101 will get gingerbread,

With Archos being on the cusp of a wave it would be good for their image marketing.

Yeah it would, I can't think of any advantages to get it though vs. the Arnova except:

Bluetooth 2.0
Micro-HDMI
More Hacking (but that will change)
Lighter

Here is a discussion on Gingerbread:

Really? Never thought about that. Does the Arnova not have that? I presumed it did.

Yep, the IPS screen got mentioned in the headlines on that French site.

I think the 101 had the plastic moulded into steel wire mesh for weight saving.

I have decided on the Arnova 9 G2, according to the specs it is a great tablet. Can't wait. Should be £150-£200.

It is an amazing deal. I tried a 7inch tablet and didn't like it's small size though.

Actually changed my mind (well, got tied up with work so never got tmake the swap). I do like the Archos, but I don't think its for me... its slow, the screen angle does annoy me, and it does crash quite a bit. Going to take it back (it still has usb fault) and save for an iPad instead. Yes, I know, but hmm. It was an interesting trial, but not for me.
