Was this year heading for trouble the moment Amelia was sent home

Everything started promisingly, the judges were gelling from the off and everything was looking good.

However the moment Amelia went you just felt that the whole thing was heading towards a joke again.

Nice girl that Sophie seems I think it was very difficult for the show to recover from that, although the 4 to go for first week was clearly the biggest mistake in the shows history

Sophie is the 2nd most popular contestant so it some people like her .......

Amelia was the weakest on the night and deserved to be sent home.

Agreed. Amelia would have provided the talent which the show is now desperate to have. Yes, Janet, Misha, Kitty plus a few others obviously have great talent, but Amelia would have been the perfect winner in my opinion. It would have been better for four people to have been voted off by the public if anything...

I think the 'Amelia first episode gone shock' was no more than the 'Kimberly first episode gone shock' from a few years ago.

Lots of heated debate and then forgotten by the end of that particular season. No biggie.

Surprisingly OP there were four other 3 other acts sent home that night so I don't think the Demise of Amelia has anything to do with the demise of the show (which I think only exists in some viewers heads, and for goodness' sake we are only going into week 4 proper)

It was forgotten due to Alisha being sent home over Hope

Series 4 was something that should have never happened.

Losing Amelia was one thing...if we lose Frankie the riots in London will look like a tea party by comparison...

Its a pity she doesn't sing in tune but I suppose you can't have everything

Don't think Amelia going made much difference. The show has 12 (ok 16) contestants and it's a combination of their performances and personalities that make a show, one person makes little difference. Although not a great fan, I would have preferred Amelia to stay over Sophie. Sophie maybe the 2nd most popular on DS polls but she is not on any other polls and is almost certain to be the first girl to go. I like Sophie by the way, it's just how it is (probably).

Thats where your wrong, she does well in all the polls, has the 2nd most watched video on youtube every week, the least disliked aswell.

Misha imo will be sent home 1st

Personally I hope its Janet.

While I have (well documented) issues with Misha - she still offers more than Janet.

Siophie could be the best of teh three - but she needs to get a spark onstage from somewhere.

I hope you a right because I prefer her over Misha B. Sophie does figure about 4th overall on polls but she does well on some and bad on others but I just have the feeling she will go quite soon. I will be happy to eat my words

Janet, on one of her video diaries, said that Amelia should by rights still be in the competition. If it hadn't been for the twist, Kelly would now have 4 acts. However I personally think Kelly made the right choice.

I think the whole sending 4 acts home before the public had the option to vote completely changed the dynamic for this years XF. Amelia was arguably the weakest in her group for that first show (imo more song choice than anything) but I very much doubt she would have had the lowest votes if it was just one act going and it was down to a public vote. Losing 25% of the act's in the opening show seems to have set the disjointed type feel that this years series has..

I actually think the twist was just a tester for what they wanted to do on the USA version.

I wasn't shocked at Amelia going, for me it reminded me of Laura White. Yes it was a bit of shock she went so early, but honestly when Laura sang that Mariah song I had a feeling she was in danger... Same with Amelia, especially when Gary was on about how Sophie had to go through, and I knew Janet and Misha were certs. The look on Kelly's face sealed it, I knew then Amelia was gone. I think she'd be the standout already though if she progressed

Possibly - whatever the reason, it all seemed a bit disjointed and at odds with the way the mentors were talking prior to this.

Dear OP, the answer is no.

What problems there are with this series started long before Amelia came on the scene. She, like all the individual acts, is entirely irrelevant.
