What's your interest in other styles of dance?

Just reading about the refit of the Bolshoi theatre...I love to watch ballet and go whenever I can.

That got me thinking about whether anyone else on here enjoys/practises/follows styles of dance other than ballroom - and if so, what?

I like ballet. I've been to the live ballet maybe twice. I'd go more but until recently I hadn't had the money for theatre trips, and now I'm working I don't seem to have as much time. Our local theatre probably isn't suitable for hosting the ballet as I'm not sure I've ever seen one advertised, so for me it would involve a trip to London. I prefer classical style ballet though - I saw a screening of a modern ballet and really didn't get what it was about
I also love watching the old movies with Fred and Ginger, Gene etc so old style Hollywood dancing mixed with ballroom and tap I guess.

I watched SYTYCD (UK) and generally thought some of the dances were beautiful, others less so. I guess I just see a dance and decide I like it, rather than a specific dance style. The dance style I really don't get is hip-hop. It doesn't resonate with me at all: I don't particularly like the music, the lyrics or the 'attitude' that goes along with the dancing.

The only style of dance I currently do is ballroom and latin. I think if I had the money and the time to learn any dance styles though I would probably pick ballet and tap (even though I would probably look like Nellie the elephant and very out of place). I'm afraid my brain tends to be quite ordered so I think I would struggle with the dance styles with less structure to them like contemporary etc. I'm sure those dance styles probably are structured but to me it can seem as though anything goes and I guess my brain works better with the rigidity of patterns.

I enjoy the mix of dancing you get in musicals - anything from ballet to tap to jazz I suppose. Especially something like West Side Story - that's quite balletic in places.

I enjoy watching pretty much most types of dancing from street dance, contemporary dance, jazz to ballet. Have just booked to see Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker next month - I enjoyed his Swan Lake so will be interesting to see his interpretation of another classic.

I love ballet - danced for several years when I was younger and still enjoy watching it. But I enjoy watching all forms of dance if they are executed well.

Ballet and social dances to PROPER music. Therefore not SYTYCD-type stuff.

I'm a ballet and contemporary girl. Never got the opportunity to do ballroom/latin, at least I never came across the opportunity. Quite fancy learning to jive - I like the bounciness

I started dancing ballet and tap at the age of either three or four and then added contemporary dance at the age of 12 when I was fortunate enough to attend classes run by the wonderful Nadine Senior in Chapletown in Leeds.
I stopped doing any dancing at all in my late teens but have always continued to watch and support local dance through my work as a journalist.
Ballet will always be my first love, followed by contemporary dance and then musical theatre which tends to combine all styles of dance in its choreography.
I used to watch Come Dancing as a child but have never done any ballroom/latin dancing other than briefly for a feature on an OAP's tea dance club.

Love watching ballet, contemporary , musical theatre, and am involved heavily with a local dance comp for ballet, tap, jazz, modern, contemporary, lyrical, song and dance etc - this is a week long comp kids and young adults, I have been taking my kids to compete at these for 16 years. Now they are too old I help run it.

I dance ballroom, Latin , sequence and Streetdance right now

I have in the recent past also taken lessons in rock and roll, salsa and tap.

I make costumes for some of the local dance studios and have made ballroom and Latin dresses for myself and my family . And made tutus etc for my daughter

Enjoy most dance forms and revel in the skill of the dancers - me with two left feet and no sense of rhythm prances about in the kitchen/any part of the house where no humans are only. Even the dogs roll their eyes

Other form sof dance?

First and foremost = Rock'n'Roll. Love the music and the dance, hence my dislike of the emasculated and watered-down jive performed on SCD!
[stands by to hide here] - Folk dances, particularly Morris and clog - traditional and border morris. Music and dance from our past. So much of our social history is contained in these and IMHO they don't get the recognition they should do.

Any I suppose, apart from Breakdancing. It's ok but doesn't take me off into a dream world like other styles of dancing. Street dancing is fine if breaking dancing isn't in it (or very little of it).

I love ballet, contemporary, Tap, Irish dancing (though wish the arms weren't so riggid). I've seen some funny national dances from other countries but all good fun if not necessarily aesthtically pleasing.

Heh, the town I live in has five different Morris teams dancing four different styles. Folk music/the folk scene is huge here, we have a four day festival every September just celebrated its 20th anniversary.
