Poppies are for Remenbrance not for a political statement, I have no doubt that there will be poppies worn on the Saturday closest to 11/11 which is the correct time to wear them IMO.
If you feel the need to wear them at any other time, that's your choice and good luck to you. The impact is less the more you see them, familiarity breeds contempt and all that............”

I think they have become worn more widely and for longer because of the greater awareness of casualties of wars with Iraq, Afghanistan, Falklands etc. Remembrance Day started after WWI but it is not solely WWI.

I think it is just weird seeing Poles, Russians, Slovenians etc. being given poppies to wear in the dance studios before being interviewed for ITT / SCD VTs.

How many here wear poppies in the gym and out jogging? I was cycling today and didn't wear one and saw none of the joggers or cyclists wearing poppies.

By being cynically populist, the BBC producers are being disrespectful to the fallen.

I wonder that we don't occasionally see white poppies on those programmes that go in for public shows of support

I don't see why it is weird. The Poles and Russians (and probably Slovenes) have a high respect for their own veterans, I think they will be proud to wear the poppy.

The clips that I saw on ITT obviously had the poppies put on for filming, they might change their clothes several times whilst training so I don't think people would expect them to keep transferring the poppy.

Most of the dancers (probably all) have been out supporting the Royal British Legion.

Thank you for this.

I wish the poppy fanatics would read it.

I wish they would also think a little further than their own prejudice and realise that some of us choose not to wear one - because we are not British or English, because our country was not involved in either the 1st or 2nd world war, and because some of us might be conscientious objectors.

We just happen to be living in the UK.

Finally, because we live in a democracy, supposedly, and we have the right to choose.
