My cat might have had a seizure

My 4 year old cat Henry woke us up last night at about 4:30 when he suddenly jumped off the bed and ran through the house before coming back into the bedroom and flopped on the floor rigid and panting. This lasted about 20 seconds during which time I was getting dressed and ready for a rush to the vets. He went back to normal right away and sat back on the bed so we just left him. I will take him to the vets tomorrow morning.

It was scary and I now know how my wife feels when this happens to me as I have had sleep seizures before with my epilepsy.

Does anyone have any similar experiences? He is an indoor cat and has no history of seizures or illness.

My neighbours cat who was one of maiseys kittens had one. We think he had one before because he looked all lost when they found him. They went away and there daughter looked after him. He had one late at night and they found him passed away in the morning. I would phone the vets up just too ask for advice

I would phone the emergency number for some quick advice. Sometimes my cat goes a bit bananas and rushes round the house like a mad thing. It is the rigid bit that you mentioned that stood out. Quick call to put your mind at rest I think.

Thanks - we phoned our emergency vets and they said if he is acting normally now and eating, drinking etc. then just to leave it until Monday but bring him in if it happens again today.

He also runs about like a mad thing regularly - at first I thought it was just the 2 cats running around chasing each other but the other one was still on the bed. It was almost like he was limping when he came back in to the room before he slumped down and went rigid. Scary!

Full check at the vets with no obvious signs - told us not to worry but to try and film it if it happens again
