Samsung Galaxy S2 - Help
Hi, I got a Samsung Galaxy S2 yesterday but I'm really not sure if I like it. I had the HTC Desire before.
I don't like how the apps aren't in alphabetical order - I know you can put them in it but then when you download new apps they are just tagged on the end and you have to move it yourself - on my HTC they just went straight into the right place. Does anyone know if there is away round this or is itjust what it is? I found that it doesn't sync all my gmail contacts to facebook easily either. Someone might be able to help me with this - in the email app I have added my hotmail account which is my main email however, it doesn't tell me I have an email unless I actually go into it and refresh it - there must be a way round this? Is there an HTC Keyboard that can be downloaded - or a sense one? I am on the verge of going back into the vodafone shop today and see if I can swop it for an HTC Sensation maybe. |

I went from an HTC Desire to a Galaxy SII,and it did take some some getting used to,but overall I'm really chuffed with it. |

Why give in so easy?
Download K9 Mail for your email....It's the best out there IMO. I don't use hotmail but it sounds like it's not push email. Is there a setting within hotmail that changes this? Go to the App drawer, hit the settings button, Sorting, and it has three modes of sorting on there. Go to the market and there are other keyboards on there. But instead of that try mastering Swype, once you can do it you won't go back. A great source of information at this site...SGSII help and solutions. You could always go back to Vodaphone and get an inferior phone, but, that would just be lazy and defeatest.....

HTC keyboard http://www.mediafire.com/?5kvnc2k126d6k3k
try downloading launcher pro and use that instead of touchwiz. It will sort your apps in the way youre used to plus has very similar widgets for calender, bookmarks, people etc that htc have. i moved from the desire hd to the galaxy s2 and its a much better phone/gadget. It doesnt integrate with facebook quite as well as htc phones do but i hate facebook and dont use it anyway

Thanks for replies.
For some reason, my hotmail is now saying username and password are incorrect - even though it was working when I was at home this morning and I haven't touched any settings! The push email is set up apparently according to my settings! I will look at one of the other email apps mentioned above. I can't see the three sorting options that someone mentioned but I'm not sure if I am going in the right place. I'm just getting frustrated! Don't know if someone can help with this either - last night when my email was working, my boyfriend emailed me a photo as an attachment - I couldn't open the attachment from the email but the phote appeared in my gallery - today its gone! Help! I'm not trying to be defeatist by the way - just frustrated lol! |

if you open the myfiles icon the pic will be saved in either the attachments or download folder. Not sure why its not showing in your gallery though unless you only opened it and didnt save.
when you recieve the email and click the attachment button it will open the pic using the gallery but doesnt automatically save it unless you do so. Maybe you just opened it rather than saved? If so, and assuming you havent deleted the email, it will still be in your inbox. |

OK...go to the app drawer by pressing the applications icon. Then use the left hand menu button and you should then get the opportunity to change the order of the icons from alphabetical list to grid then you can move them around the grid to where you want and the last downloaded should be the last on the grid(s)....I haven't used it for a while as I use the Go Launcher which changes how is works slightly and gives you more options....Look into it...Have fun.
skimminstones is right. You have to save the photo for it to be permanently in your gallery. Have a look at this.....Touchwiz walkthrough |

Thanks for the responses guys - I've downloaded the Hotmail app which is better!
My battery has died so quickly today - any tips on how to get the best out of it? I am going to let it fully die today and then fully charge it with the phone switched off tonight. Two other quick questions I don't know if anyone can answer - is there anyway to get an LED light notification type thing for texts and missed call like the HTC Desire had? Also - Ice Cream Sandwich - is the SGS2 likely to get this update? Thanks all |

There is no LED on the S2 but get NoLED app to replace it. It'll put a white envelope symbol on your screen when you have a message.

You don't need to root your phone to conserve battery.
Make sure you have it running the latest software. Turn off GPS/Location when not needed. Turn off Bluetooth Keep display brightness to a low level. Use Task manager to kill anything you are not using as you go. Use dark wallpaper... Two days from mine, but, I don't game on it. I don't use it to view too many videos either, mainly because it's my phone not my TV... ![]() you'll get more from it when you have finished playing with it and have it set up how you want it...

I don't play games on my phone either or go on you tube. Mainly texting, check my emails, facebook and twitter a couple of time a day and maybe a little time on the net.
I'll have to look for a dark wallpaper - I think my latitude is on so will have to switch that off, and look at the display settings. I've got a clock on mine that has a battery monitor and the phone dropped 16% overnight when I wasn't even using it! I've checked that all apps are off from the task manager, the display is on automatic brightness, I've changed the email so it doesn't push them and just checks every hour!!! |

Make sure automatic update is switched of in your twitter and Facebook apps if you only check them a couple of times a day.
I think you have to accept that the phone has a thirst for power greater than your last device. I don't leave mine on overnight. I can't see the point. Plug it in each night if you are going to leave it on. It won't do it any harm, just get a dock and leave it in when not being used then it's 100% ready to go in the morning..... ![]() I turned off automatic brightness and just use the finger swipe of the notification bar to alter the brightness up if I need it, which is not that often... |

I couldn't get the hang of swiping the notification bar - will have to practice! So I need to turn off the automatic brightness to do this, I've also got the auto adjust screen brightness selcted - do I need this on or off?
I do normally charge it overnight - I was just suprised that I did this Sunday night so it was 100% when I woke up yesterday morning and then by 2.30/3.00 yesterday afternoon it was down to 10%! Last night I let it die completely and then fully charged it with phone off so it was 100% when I went to bed last night and its now down to 74% - all I've done is made one call and checked my emails!!! |

If you go to Settings -> Applications -> Battery Usage you can get a better idea of what's using your battery. If it has Android OS at the top, check via Kies if you have any software updates pending as that's a known bug that drains battery for no reason in 2.3.4 (They said they'd fixed it in 2.3.5, but I didn't notice any difference. Seems to be better on 2.3.7).

You don't need to turn off auto brightness for the swipe to work., I have it turned off as I found it annoying. The swipe is a slow one - more of a drag - along the bar. Practice will make perfect. 75% is still a lot of battery life.....Don't worry about it, it's spoiling your enjoyment...Just plug it in every night and you will have plenty of power for what you need every day. |

Another silly question - my GPS is off according to the little bar at the top - does this mean the maps and latitude are off too because of that?
Many thanks for everyones help! I'm sure I will get used to the phone soon and get all the little bits sorted

No you will still have maps, however, it will not tell you where you are exactly. You only need it turned on really for things like SatNav or when you use an app that needs GPS. Just turn it off when you've finished using it.
Have you got Kies on your computer for syncing and updating? The Kies air app just does it without wires....You can deal with your photo's music etc without hooking up via USB. The only thing you need to be hard wired for is updates. Press the Kies (Pronounced Kiss!!) air app and it will give you a URL. Put this in your browser and press enter. Your Phone will ask for permission to connect. Allow connection and you will get all your phones content in your browser. You can move things about or drag and drop things like photo's.....Give it a try...you won't break it. Remember, You still need the desktop version of Kies to get any updates.... |

You might be one update out that improved battery life (slightly).....It's not as reliable to connect to as the air version, but, it's the only way to get updates.......Air version for everything else is better.
