iPad1 v iPad 2

Tried looking for an existing thread but couldn't find one.

I'm looking at getting an iPad, but resources are limited so am considering a refurbished iPad1 rather than the iPad 2.

Now, I know the spec differences (speed, unit weight, camera etc) but I wondered if there is anything else that I should bear in mind?

The one thing that worries me is that it might not be that long before iPad1s stop being compatable with iOS updates (such as the iPhone 3G is).

But basically, I want it for browsing, apps and Sky Go. Anything else I can do on my iPhone 4S (such as anything needing a camera).

Ideally I'd get an iPad2 or iPad3 when it comes out, but the available cash for this is going to be restricted.

The iPhone 3GS is compatible with the latest iOS5. I don't think they'll drop support for IP1 any time soon.

There are very few apps that are specific to IP2 so at the moment that doesn't seem to be an issue either. If you don't need a camera (for facetime) then I'd get an IP1. The weight difference is fairly negligible and for browsing and apps the speed is only noticeable in the time it takes to start the apps up really. You might find the pages load a couple of seconds quicker in safari but honestly it's not a lot.

Although you say cash is tight for an IP3, don't forget it won't be in the shops until about May time next year so there's plenty of time to stash the cash However, if the rumoured retina display is on it, there may be a price hike. Possibly they'll all move up one price bracket. But that's only a guess.
