DS hasn't published the soaps article yet, so quite a few soaps are missing from that list: ie. Corrie, Hollyoaks, Doctors, etc. DS will probably publish that article later tonight or tomorrow and then those figures will be posted on this thread .

I heard BB is also responsible for world poverty.

I think they will do well tonight with the Ken Dodd Audience. Rather ironic as it is often shown on ITV3.

Five has gone from a regular 4-5% primetime share performer to one that lurches dramatically from highs to record lows. What has changed apart from the introduction of Big Brother?

I bet you wish you didn't slate Channel 5 so much on the nights it did averagely/quite well now. It makes your post above look much less effective than it otherwise could have been. It's just a typical post from you.

LOL. I guess any low rating/share for C5 to come will be because of Big Brother.

Err, no it's not. I just ran a search on DigiGuide and it hasn't been shown on there since at least 2009, if at all. It was last on BBC Two and cut to shreds. (60 minute runtime, compared to 95 minutes tonight)

The opposition perhaps? The strength of which was pretty extraordinary on both Wednesday and Friday.

Maybe ITV have had the figures covered up out of embarrassment.

How was BB responsible for Vacancy flopping against I'm a celeb/CIN?
Is it also responsible for Daybreak? Too soon..?

I will say this though: the past week makes a mockery of mlt11's suggestion that Channel 5 can get by on a 4% audience share with cheap as chips programmes just because of it's EPG position. Yeah, right.

Still, nice spoiler by the BBC, getting in first.

Five used to be the home of a US procedural or a decent movie every night at 9pm. Now its pot luck what you get so they have alienated their core audience by messing around with their schedule. Although in fairness Vacancy is an awful movie and should never have been put in a 9pm by any sane scheduler.

So how did Five do last year on CiN Friday against the exact same line up on BBC1 & ITV1 - better, worse, same???

The same Vacancy with a 6.3 score on IMDB, higher than its C4 opposition The Transporter 3's 5.9? Film fans don't agree with you it seems, George.

Reluctantly I would go along with the first bit to a degree. Although the Channel 5 schedule hasn't been as fixed as you suggest for several years, so that part's baloney. But basically in trying to broaden their audience there is no clear target any more due to the increasingly diverse schedule and so on very tough nights like last night where BBC One and ITV1 combined are mopping up an abnormally high percentage of the audience, they lose out.

Thankfully for them, nights like last night are a 3 per year event, if that.

”

The Radio Times gave Vacancy four stars for "very good " although they do feel that
Quote:
“it's probably not worthy of two high-profile leads”

Sometimes though, as in BBC1 scheduling against The X Factor final-final or Channel 4 scheduling against X Factor on a Saturday night, a TV channel just accepts it's not worth making a big effort against the highest rated programmes on the telly.

It would seem though that the champions at provided good alternatives to some of the big-hitters is ITV3 with their posh drama. Great ratings for Lewis.

Channel 5's low brow tacky programming isn't doing much for the ratings then, I bet that sort of stuff would have rated better on ITV2, a bit embarassing to be beaten by no doubt the millionth repeat of Lewis on ITV3!

You wouldn't be asking the question if it were worse or the same. King of the rhetoricals!

Hardly comparable though given first run Mentalist has switched nights, a fundamental difference compared to last year. The effects of that would far outweigh any losses caused by alienated viewers following BB's three month stint in (mostly) the 10pm slot.

I'll admit I dont live & breathe the Five schedule like you do but as a fairly disinterested punter I am probably closer to the Five lite viewer that uses them as a default option when there is nothing else decent on. At least a CSI, L&O or similar is going meet the needs of these people better than random scheduling (Tamara friggin Eccelsone one night, Ken Dodd the next)

TBH it reminds me of ITV1 around 2003-04 - Five isn't appointment to view tv for most people and it cant afford to annoy the viewers for which it has been in the way it has been doing lately

Live trial on I'm a Celeb tomorrow, that's usually good for some high ratings.

No, no. Don't get carried away. ITV3 held up well in comparison because it caters very clearly for a certain audience, which know they can rely on it for certain things, and that's why its shares are largely consistent. ITV2 doesn't, and never will, have the same viewer loyalty.

Strictly won't have had that much of a bigger budget this week than usual - costs were covered by ticket sales, profit going to Children in Need, so a relatively cheap arena spectacular for BBC1.

I don't think the results should ever be on a Sunday. It works for X Factor, but I've never felt it works for Strictly, all the momentum is lost and the Sunday show is not event TV. Maybe if it was live and they brought back the dance-off, it might work, but otherwise I think it should return to Saturday nights.

Glad we've finally got some ratings. I've been kicked out to the computer room because I kept asking "Who's that?" during I'm a Celeb.
