There hasn't been a proper shock elimination on X Factor this year - Amelia Lily in week one was to an extent, but it was too soon to have an effect. The main reason is that the bulk of the 16 were poor and dull.
They need to make sure the final auditions episodes build towards bootcamp (people should be talking about the stand out performance of the series so far, not Ceri!). Bootcamp itself needs to be fixed (still!). Get some big names involved at that stage, "mentoring" groups of contestants who perform a song from their back catalogue. The star gets to pick their 2 or 3 favourites who automatically go through. Judges choose the rest. And choose fewer as well - 16 is too much for the live shows.
I can't see the panel staying the same. Whether their contracts are not renewed or they leave voluntarily, I'll be surprised if both Barlow and Rowland return. People don't want to hate Gary even if he is an arse. They need a record exec that can be the boss and get the blame for all the manipulation. And if they've got someone better, I think Tulisa could be gone.
They need people that get talked about. I've no doubt they'll try and get Cheryl back, whether or not she agrees is anyones guess. I suspect we might see Gamu pop up next year as well (and make the finals this time!). In fact, I'd like a category of 3 contestants who were shock eliminees in previous years.
In terms of the set, it's the best they've had on any of these shows. It's definitely darker this year so I'm guessing that's a lighting issue more than anything. It'll change next year but I don't really see how they can go much smaller. The audience is pretty tiny as it is. If they make the stage smaller, they limit themselves not only for contestant performances but also for the guests. Although I would consider taking the auditions back to hotel rooms - albeit with a nicer set.
Mel B seems possible - but I was actually thinking of her and Emma Bunton for Britain's Got Talent. The Spice Girls (mini) reunion nonsense might get some headlines as well. Mel B would stir it up a bit. Bunton would be the placid female.

Should be good for another 7m.
