Channel 4's scheduling has been odd across the board for a while now. Even the scheduling for E4 has becoming increasingly nonsensical (Misfits on Sunday night). It does feel a lot like a channel in crisis these days with no coherent vision or idea of what it is or what it wants to be. They're just throwing everything and anything on the schedule with no real rhyme or reason.
It doesn't help when even the on air team don't seem to know when programmes are starting. For example after last night's late spooky themed episode of The Simpsons for Halloween, the announcer said the new series was starting next Monday at 6 when it's actually starting this Friday. |

Typical. 2 days of ratings in one go and the mods move us to a new thread. Such impeccable timing. Quote:

While posting general remarks on ratings is fine, going into in-depth discussion regarding them would be better suited in their specific threads:

Without The Chase on the other channel Pointless averaged 3 million viewers yesterday, so well done them. Best Dish had 1.5m Great rating for the Pointless repeat. As for Sunday, after all the talk of TXF and Strictly (and the inevitable desperate ITV press office spin over their "3m down on the year" show), it's good old Countryfile that delivers the most stunning rating of the weekend. I'm sure it must have peaked in the 10m ballpark. It got a 9.2m record peak last November for an episode that overnighted at c7.5m. Even if these people only tune in at the end for SCD, they might like what they see and watch the whole thing next week. Any tweets from Schofield today over his 2:1 thrashing by a rural affairs show? Seems he's as silent as GeorgeS is when ITV is taking a beating...

On that very same note, DSRPG players are predicting Strictly will beat The X Factor for the second consecutive week this Saturday. Average predictions:
TXF: 9.7m Strictly: 10.1m Personally I wouldn't be surprised if the gap is wider- Bonfire Night celebrations should dent TXF more. |

I'm sure we can tease some thoughts out of you re:
SCD 10.2m TXF 9.5m and (clash period) SCD 10.8m TXF 7.9m Can we? ![]() The point I had wriiten at length was that SCD has fixed a lot of the production issues that retarded it last year so there is no reason why X Factor cant bounce back with some tweaks. I refuse to believe that its now in the sunset retirement home waiting for the end to arrive. Unlike another reality show, which from what I hear is unlikely to be back in a non-celeb version ever again.

I've different figures for Sunday

I refuse to believe that its now in the sunset retirement home waiting for the end to arrive. Unlike another reality show, which from what I hear is unlikely to be back in a non-celeb version ever again.X Factor needs a big change next year - all we can say - with The Voice as well I think ITV should replace its production team and a lot of the shows structured staff (or at least shift em about a bit) in order to change the culture of the show and how they get viewers. It needs a big refreshing - otherwise I think it'll be down from the auditions onwards. Likely the Sunday show will continute to succeed. In fact I'd argue they should look to have more live moments during auditions - a kind of 'ongoing boot camp' for everyone shown on the Saturday night kind of thing. Oh and BB will only not have a non-celeb one if its able to increase the length its celebs take part. I think it'd be smart if they made sure BB is on next summer and CBB is on the January after, and repeat. PS: Can we not use the word retarded, cheers. |

![]() It's still beating 71 Degrees North among the 16-34s at least, as well as a number of other primetime ITV1 programmes in this demo. |

Even though it got bigger ratings in 09, 10 and (possibly) 11, it has (in reality if not in reporting methodology) been soundly beaten by BGT, World Cup 2010 and the Royal Wedding. And now it's on the slide, with an Olympics opening ceremony and England at Euro 2012 to contend with next year. |

I never really got Wallace & Gromit, so that getting 16 million to me, is as alien as X-Factor getting 14 million.

Here's the full Top 100 list of 2010: http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/Journa...0Top%20100.pdfWorld Cup 2010 obviously peaked higher (~21m for a match IIRC) so World Cup 2010 had the "most watched moment" on TV last year, but the general methodology to determine "most watched programme" over the years has usually been done by averages, not peaks. |

Channel 5 Week 47 Programming
To be broadcast and rated in week commencing 19th November:
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit The awards-laden crime drama series based on NYPD’s elite sex-crimes investigation squad tackles its 200th case, which features Robin Williams guest-starring as a disaffected engineer taking revenge on figures of authority after the death of his wife. The Lost Orphan: Mirela’s Story Natalie Pinkham revisits Romania where, in 1999, she spent the summer working in an orphanage. There a smiling three-year-old called Mirela stole her heart, and now Natalie returns to see if she can discover how time has treated that once happy little girl. An Audience with Ken Dodd Keeping audiences entertained since the 1950s, Ken gives a specially invited audience a prod with his tickling stick. Having learnt his trade doing summer seasons in Blackpool, working with Jimmy Clitheroe on the same bill as Morecambe and Wise, Ken has continued to perform into his eighties, and has become renowned for marathon shows, some lasting nearly five hours. It's already been shown this year on BBC Two to an audience of 2.6m on Saturday 26th February. |

World Cup 2010 obviously peaked higher (~21m for a match IIRC) so World Cup 2010 had the "most watched moment" on TV last year, but the general methodology to determine "most watched programme" over the years has usually been done by averages, not peaks.
Holland v Spain: BBC1 - 13.44m (46.5%) Holland v Spain: BBC HD - 1.43m (5.0%) Holland v Spain: ITV1 - 2.79m (10.3%) Holland v Spain: ITV1 HD - 0.17m (0.6%) Total: 17.83m (62.4%)

Top 50 most watched programmes of 2008 14 - 10.05m - UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Man Utd v Chelsea (21/05/08) - ITV1 20 - 9.08m - BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIX (02/11/08) - ITV1 29 - 8.51m - HEARTBEAT (06/01/08) - ITV1 30 - 8.47m - CASUALTY (02/02/08) - BBC1 Just picking some random ratings which stand out to me. The United/Chelsea Champs League final had a peak of 14.6 million IIRC, while The Apprentice slumped to 5 million in the overnights during the clash. The 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix (which had Hamilton win the championship on the last corner of the last lap of that race) had a peak of 13.3 million, while Britannia High seemed to benefit from its lead-in with a 4m+ performance. It soon sunk back to old levels of circa 2/3 million. Heartbeat, another show axed by ITV which was actually getting 7/8 million for that series, good ratings for the Sunday night slot. Maybe it's the unattractive older demographic that Heartbeat attracted that made ITV's minds up, despite 5/6 million performances. And onto to Casualty, a show which had gone through an overhaul in Series 22 with a filmic look, returning to its political roots somewhat. The episode was the highest rated episode of the series, with quite a few 8 million performances for Casualty in early January and February, and the Xmas 2007 episode grabbing 8.18 million. A very good time for Casualty. *now sits and waits to be shot down by other FM's for inaccurate information and unnecessary rambling* |

I've no problem with archive shows being repeated, but that's a pretty random choice.

X Factor will top the ratings chart this year even before the final. It only needs 14million and it has done it. I think it will be number one following the results show on the 13th November.

The point I had wriiten at length was that SCD has fixed a lot of the production issues that retarded it last year so there is no reason why X Factor cant bounce back with some tweaks. I refuse to believe that its now in the sunset retirement home waiting for the end to arrive. Unlike another reality show, which from what I hear is unlikely to be back in a non-celeb version ever again.
