Looks like the share was up a bit week on week too and SCD must have slipped back a bit if TXF was #1, which will give ITV bragging rights at least.”

I have a feeling this is a situation where SCD might've been ahead of TXF in the excluding +1 numbers, but TXF just about slipped ahead in the including +1 numbers. If they're pretty close though, TXF will definitely be ahead in the consolidated numbers.

Last week's equivalent XF (inc +1) share was 40%, so it was up 2 share points. That was sort of to be expected though considering there was no SCD clash last night.

Still a poor rating for XF. SCD should be more affected because it was earlier in the evening.

The +1 is a copout to be honest.

I think you could be right there, which will no doubt cause plenty of arguments on here! Probably explains why James Macleod got his Tweet in nice and early before anyone claimed SCD won.

The share increase may be slightly down to the lack of SCD but they only clashed for 10 mins last week so there probably were slightly fewer people watching TV last night.

Also, I think both talent shows will be tapechecked by Attentional last night as they both ended slightly early.

Last night's #Strictly peaked at 10.5m, 46.5% share, averaging 9.1m, 41.6% #SCD #BBC1

So XF did win, afterall. SCD was down -1.1m and -1.1 share points from last week. I'm quite surprised by that considering it's been improving each week and had good momentum - I thought the Bonfire Night effect would've been slightly smaller than that. And for fans of y-o-y comparisons, it was down -12% vs. the same night last year. TXF was down about -20% y-o-y.

Neither have anything to brag about but I do believe that next week should be better for both.....

By my calculations, less than 24 million were watching TV last night, which is extremely low for a Saturday winter's night, no doubt hurting both The X Factor and Strictly - and presumably everything else on last night. Both should improve tonight.

rzt what did TXF get on the same week in 2005?

I know there is no comparison but what did it get in comparison with the previous week?

On Bonfire Night 2005, XF had 7.3m (performances) and 6.8m (results) in the overnights. Those ratings were down from the previous week's 8.2m and 9.0m ratings.

Seeing as most Firework displays take place between 6-9pm it's understandable both entertainment shows would be down from last week. Fully expect them both to be above 10m next week though.

I'm quite surprised at that Strictly rating, as it's shown really good momentum so far. Having said that its share wasn't down by that much so it looks like less people were watching TV due to Bonfire Night.

Look at that share though.

42% is enormous.

How often do programmes get a share of the available audience as huge as that?

Basically all of 2010 and 2009's live shows. 2008 had 42% in week 5 and built momentum towards the final also. Last year's lives never went under 46%.

Saturday 24th December 2005
BBC One
16:00 - FILM: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone: 6.82m
18:25 - Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special: 9.33m
19:30 - Lottery - Millionaire Manor: 5.62m
20:00 - Casualty @ Holby City: 8.00m
21:10 - Little Britain: 8.45m
21:40 - FILM: Bridget Jones' Diary: 6.99m

20:00 - Who Wants to be a Millionaire?: 6.09m
21:10 - Celebrity Stars in their Eyes: 5.69m

We know ITV1 has Text Santa marathon, which could do well or flop - I suspect it will be in the ~4/5m range, depending on the BBC One line-up of course. BBC1 we know have EastEnders so it'll be that alongside the Lottery and Casualty...

Sunday 25th December 2005
BBC One
18:00 - My Family: 5.85m
19:00 - Doctor Who: 9.84m
20:00 - The Green Green Grass: 4.59m
21:00 - EastEnders: 10.60m
22:00 - The Two Ronnies: 7.87m

ITV1

19:00 - Who Wants to be a Millionaire?: 6.55m
20:00 - Coronation Street: 9.81m
21:00 - The Booze Cruise: 4.38m

Monday 26th December 2005
BBC One
18:00 - As Time Goes By: 4.87m
20:00 - EastEnders: 9.91m
20:30 - Outtake TV: 4.83m
21:00 - FILM: Minority Report: 4.52m

ITV1
18:00 - Emmerdale: 6.20m
18:30 - Coronation Street Christmas Panto: 7.32m
19:30 - Coronation Street: 9.69m
20:30 - Coronation Street: 9.07m
21:00 - Under the Greenwood Tree: 5.03m

I hope the Christmas line-ups don't look like a 2011 version of that, because they look awful.”

Thanks for those D.M.N, I'd forgotten just how poor the schedules were that year. I hope people complaining about the schedules being repetitive in recent years look at those and realise how good BBC1's Christmas Day schedule has been in recent years. Here's how I think this year's will go:

Christmas Eve
BBC1
17:45 - FILM: Wall-E
19:15 - Merlin (13/13)
20:00 - EastEnders
20:30 - Outnumbered
21:00 - Lapland
22:30 - Miranda Christmas Special (R)

ITV1
18:30 - You've Been Framed at Christmas
19:00 - Text Santa Live
22:00 - The Jonathan Ross Christmas Show

Christmas Day
BBC1
15:00 - The Queen
15:10 - FILM: Ratatouille
17:00 - FILM: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
18:20 - BBC News
18:30 - EastEnders
19:00 - Doctor Who
20:00 - Strictly Come Dancing
21:00 - EastEnders
21:30 - The Royal Bodyguard
22:00 - Absolutely Fabulous
22:30 - Michael McIntyre's Christmas Roadshow

ITV1
15:00 - The Queen
15:10 - FILM: Mamma Mia
17:15 - ITV News
17:30 - You've Been Framed at Christmas
18:00 - All Star Family Fortunes
19:00 - Emmerdale
20:00 - Coronation Street
21:00 - Downton Abbey

Boxing Day
BBC1
18:00 - FILM: Monsters vs Aliens
19:30 - Celebrity Mastermind (1/10)
20:00 - EastEnders
20:30 - The Borrowers
22:00 - Mrs Brown's Boys (R)

ITV1
19:00 - Emmerdale
19:30 - Coronation Street
20:00 - Harry Hill's Best of Christmas TV Burp
20:30 - Coronation Street
21:00 - FILM: The Dark Knight

Text Santa on Christmas Eve really could go either way, but that'd be a really strong BBC1 schedule against it. I can see ITV trying to make things difficult for BBC1 on Christmas Day now that they've lost The Royle Family and ITV have Downton, and that schedule would do that, but BBC1 still looks very strong. I've put The Borrowers on Boxing Day as I think it's a better fit than Great Expectations, which would start on the 27th. The Dark Knight is a big movie premiere that would provide an alternative and Poirot may b used as a bit of a spoiler to Great Expectations, starting at 8pm on the 27th.

As for Mrs Brown's Boys, I've marked it as a repeat as I think this would be a really good way of scheduling the first screening of the Christmas special on 17th December, to get a bigger audience watching the show:

17:50 - Total Wipeout
18:50 - Strictly Come Dancing: The Final
19:50 - Merlin
20:35 - Strictly Come Dancing: The Final Results
21:35 - Mrs Brown's Boys
22:05 - National Lottery Draws
22:15 - BBC News
22:30 - Match of The Day

Outnumbered got a really big audience in that slot a fe years ago and so ould Mrs Brown's Boys, which would set it up for the future.

Ratings seem to be down last night because didn't merlin get 5.6m last week?

I thought strictly was poor last night especially with Jennifer Grey on it. She made a laugh of the scoring. X factor was poor also

Do the over 50's bother going to Bonfire night anymore? Alot of them have probably caught the flu and stayed in to watch Strictly

Good to see X Factor back in the number 1 slot, although I do agree with others that both SCD and X Factor were pretty poor last night. SCD suffered without Len and X Factor suffered from poor song choices and sub-standard performances, at least we had the judges to keep us entertained though

So x factor stayed preety similar to last week. If it wasn't, for bon fire night strictly most likely wOuld have been in tens again and beaten the x factor again!!!!

3.0m for Lottery Awards.
4.9m for Harry Hill's TV Burp (inc +1)
4.6m for Piers Morgan's Life Stories (inc +1)

I would like to see a schedule like this for Xmas Eve:

17:45 Wall-E
19.15 News, Sport and Weather
19:30 EastEnders
20:10 Casualty
21:00 Outnumbered

Casualty hasn't been on Xmas Eve since 2006, and has never been on Xmas Day even in the height of its popularity. EastEnders at 7.30pm would provide good lead-in for Casualty, Outnumbered in a 9pm slot could provide a 5/6m rating.
