I enjoyed 10 o clock live ( as I do most C4 programmes) so am glad to see it getting a second series. The tweaks will improve the show I'm sure

10 O'Clock Live has potential but I think half an hour would be better, it really struggled to fill content with the hour long slot. Maybe they should precord it on the day of transmission as live rather than live with the occasional live episode.

Not sure if keeping the presenters intact is a good idea, I'd drop Lauren Laverne and just have Charlie, Jimmy and David.

Forget about last year or even 2009; ITV1 will just want to see some growth from The X Factor now, and at least it got that. Bonfire night could hit it again; I said before the results rating came out that I expect it to be down on last Saturday and I still do. The Cube did ok but not brilliantly; though Downton Abbey is still performing very well. BBC One had an excellent night with Strictly hitting above the 10m mark; Countryfile recording a great figure and Antiques Roadshow working well against The X Factor. Misfits could've done worse considering!

Everything bar Coronation Street seemed to be down last night; with Halloween on a Monday I didn't think the effect would be so great. Doc Martin will still timeshift well and I think Young Apprentice did ok all things considered.

The X Factor up in share and viewers from Sunday which should please ITV, despite the big year-on-year falls. The big ratings story of Sunday was Countryfile, if it timeshifts even 200k it may well break into the Top 20! Huge rating for it.

Monday as expected, except I thought Doc Martin would have crossed 9m. Still very good rating for itself and Corrie breaking 9m too.

This is regarding the 85 minute build-up to the FA Cup match, but the reason they're doing that is because they're not showing Saturday night highlights, so it's basically a highlights show with a live match tacked on the end. Won't be a major drain on the ratings, I feel, an FA Cup first match on Sunday lunchtime won't do much.

Celebrity Wish List is finishing about 10th in its slot now or something equally absurd, beaten by the likes of E4+1.

It really is an embarrassment, but pulling it would look bad since it's for good causes.
Well, the good causes have still got the benefit, haven't they, the programmes have been made and the things done? We don't have to see it. And nobody'll notice if it goes anyway.

Ken Dodd night, I think?
Yes, they first showed it on BBC2 on Christmas Eve 2008 as part of Doddy Night - when they also brilliantly showed the 1984 Christmas Blankety Blank - then whacked it out again on Saturday teatime this year when they were showing loads of other old comedy like The Two Ronnies. I dunno why Five are showing it, but I can't think of another programme that has been on three of the five terrestrial channels, unless the Beeb do another Brucie Night and show An Audience With Him.

10 O'Clock Live has potential but I think half an hour would be better, it really struggled to fill content with the hour long slot. Maybe they should precord it on the day of transmission as live rather than live with the occasional live episode.

If they're going to make it shorter I'm not sure it's a great idea to keep all four presenters on because the big problem for me last time was that interesting interviews and discussions were forever being curtailed for adverts and sketches, reaching a nadir when it looked like John Prescott was going to punch that News of the World hack about phone tapping and then they had to stop so Jimmy Carr could do a sketch where he had crap thrown all over him.

I don't think it was a case of not having enough content, if anything they had too much stuff.

Julian Fellowes told the BBC One Show tonight there will be a two-hour Downton Christmas ''movie'' which is currently filming although he stopped short at saying it would be shown on Christmas Day. He also confirmed his Titanic series will be 4x1 hour films for airing next year.

I agree 10 O Clock Live should be 1/2 an hour, dont care one jot for Jimmy Carr, they can axe him, keep it Broker, David, and maybe a guest presenter if needed.

Following recent events ratings wise, I think the likelyhood of Downton Abbey being on Christmas Day is getting less and less as the days go on.

I agree. ITV might win some great points, but its one day that means little for them beyond maybe some ego points.

Christmas Eve I think is a big possibility.
Or X Factor finale ofc (but if I were ITV I'd do a 'your fired' type thing and pull Xtra Factor to ITV 1)

Unsurprisingly, but good to have it confirmed, Channel 5 won the Freeview HD slot:
Channel 5 has been granted permission by Ofcom to launch its high definition channel on Freeview HD.

The broadcaster, owned by Richard Desmond’s Northern & Shell, was unopposed in its application for the terrestrial platform’s fifth HD slot when the window closed on October 17.
http://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2011/...eeview-hd-slot

Elsewhere, the broadcaster has released details of Charley Boorman’s Extreme Frontiers which will TX next month:

He’s ridden through Africa in the award winning series ‘Long Way Down’, braved the wilds of the North on his 20,000 mile ‘Long Way Round’ adventure and now Charley Boorman, accompanied by producer/director Russ Malkin, is about to launch his latest adventure – a new and exciting adventure expedition that really gets under the skin of an entire country.

Charley Boorman’s Extreme Frontiers follows Charley’s epic 10,300 mile journey across Canada, the world’s second largest country. Travelling principally on motorbikes, the series sees Charley and Russ traversing each of the 10 Canadian Provinces, 2 Frontiers, 3 Oceans and 4 Extreme Frontiers from East to West revealing a unique insight into this beautiful country.

I thought he gave it away that it was on Christmas Day to be honest, he said something like it was designed to be a great end to your Christmas, ie. the thing you put on at 9pm at night.

I tend to think Channel 5 should repeat its own stuff, not stuff from BBC or ITV.
Suggestions?

I can see why they're going with the archive footage. Its something that's proven to have decent nostalgia appeal with viewers although An Audience with Ken Dodd isn't the most natural choice. This does however highlight my major issue with Five - they spend millions on Big Brother and bring in shows like The Bachelor and this new Tamara Ecclestone thing chasing younger viewers but at the same time they throw this archive footage onto the schedule. I feel like they could be doing a better job of getting these younger viewers to stick around.

A shame about Top Boy recording a low figure. I haven't watched it yet, but it looks really good and it's always nice to see Channel 4 attempting new comedy and drama. I hope the low figures doesn't put them off trying to find a new drama/comedy hit.
I don't imagine it was ever supposed to be a returning drama. As someone else said it looks like awards bait more than anything else and on that front I think it has potential to deliver. Having said that they really do need to focus on making something a bit more mainstream that can attract (and keep) a mass audience at some point.

10 O'Clock Live always felt like four or five completely different formats competing for airtime to me. It was a very strange thing to watch but at the same time it was oddly enjoyable and engaging (I suspect because of the quality of the talent involved more than anything else). I can't help but feel they might do better to take the various different formats in the show and run them as separate shows rather than awkwardly forcing them together.

Surprised C4 didn't attempt to win the slot considering they did last time - and worrying Desmond is already talking of sub-letting. I guess it might be Babestation HD rather than Supercasino HD overnight then!

More likely to be QVC HD - they've already shown an interest in launching on Freeview. I don't imagine something like Babestation has much to gain from it.

From launch though C5 HD will be a 24 hour simulcast of the main channel. And should they enter into a sub-letting arrangement in the future to keep costs down, it will be for a limited time during daytime/overnight hours only.

I can't imagine anyone being too upset about not being able to see Supercasino in HD!

I'd have thought Babestation might have more than most to gain from being in HD!

OFCOM though need to show some authority on this and ensure we don't see a situation like we've had with some SD channels where they basically air for an hour or two a day, perhaps behind a pay-wall, and still get a place on the EPG. C5 HD should at least run during daytime and primetime - as you say with C5 selling out to Supercasino overnight there is no real reason to object to the space being sub-let after midnight - but I wonder who would want it?

The One Show
Alex Jones "There is a Christmas Day special, isn't there?"
Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes "There IS a Christmas special, yes indeed, a 2-hour movie to get you through the end of Christmas".

Yeh, see that sounds like someone talking who's been told by ITV its getting the 9pm slot on Christmas Day.

Mind you, all the schedules are subject to change and while ITV might commission it for that slot they'll take a look at what the BBC are doing and will probably change quite a bit around anyway.

Talking of The One Show according to Digiguide's latest update (which I think in theory is the final listings - although the blurbs aren't complete) Children in Need will begin at 7.30pm on the 18th following a One Show Children in Need special at 7pm.

Dimbelby destroys competition

young viewers turned off by Question Time, isnt that what Young Voters Question Time is for?

I would like to say its good, but there is alot of "star power" for something that was only ever ok.
No one really watches young persons question time (just pure PSB), it's on rarely and there's a surprisingly large young audience of Question Time.

It won't be on Christmas Eve as ITV have a live telethon called 'Text Santa' on Christmas Eve (presumably from 7-10pm).

It'll be fascinating to see what happens if ITV do put it on Christmas Day. Traditionally ITV's Christmas Day offerings get thrashed by BBC1 and are lower than they would be on another night, but is Downton too big to suffer the same fate?

BBC 1 would be facing some real competition, im sure people would watch Downton Abbey on Christmas Day, I wont*, but others would.

* nor would I watch the BBCs Upstairs Downstairs. (unless its a Doctor Who crossover )
