Daybreak still chugging along with 800,000

Judging from the latest press reports, it seems like ITV are finally going to bite the bullet on the "presenters" question.
I really don't know what can be done about Daybreak now. I suppose they're hoping Breakfast's move to Salford might have an effect.

In the meantime it seems as though they might be trying to reduce costs.

There is no typical viewer. I think if you had a strong interest in courtroom drama you might be more likely to be following the Murray case and know that the verdict was due on Monday night.
That sounds close to the classic plea in mitigation for a below par rating - "some of our viewers were watching something more interesting elsewhere"

What were the ratings for series 1 btw, and how did that hold over the week?
The first series was on Sunday nights, not stripped.

8.01m
6.85m
5.83m
5.22m
4.99m
5.35m (Monday).

C4 (inc C4+1)
21:00 Hippo: Nature's Wild Feast: 2.2m 8.1%
22:35 Britain's Sex Gangs: 0.9m 6.0%
I misread that as "Hippo Sex Gangs" as I scrolled through too quickly...

not really. It probably didnt have a huge effect. Would be interesting to see what the news channels got last night though between 9 and 10pm.

I do think this is a drama that will get quite a lot of timeshifting and stay relatively flat in the final figures although the overnights may bounce about a bit.

Its no Doc Martin though

Thank **** for that.

Good move. At least there was a point to it when it was Studio Five and contributing (somehow) to their news quota.

We always stack the stripped dramas and watch them without all the ads/credits/previously/next, in one or two nights.

Have to say, it'll be a relief, if not just for the fact of them plugging Jeff Brazier and Jenny frost constantly in Desmond publication and channel 5, neither are very good, I'm afraid.

Solid start for The Jury, but it will definitely be sub 5m tonight & tomorrow. Quite low for Corrie really, but it was a rather low key double. Decent for Nat, presumably boosted by them advertising the verdict result during The Jury.

Young Apprentice didn't seem to get a boost, but at least it's steady. The Hotel Inspector seemed to gain the most proving it is still capable of a decent audience when it doesn't face one of the biggest dramas on TV. It should never be against Doc Martin, Downton or New Tricks, because it will always collapse.

I see Pan Am has got the Radio Time's front cover and the first double bill is being shown three times on BBC Two (with two HD simulcasts).

OK for The Jury but it will struggle throughout the week.

Poor for Junior Apprentice, Big Brother and Lost Heroes of WW1.

Channel 4 had an pretty good night. I always like seeing it do pretty well.

Seriously? Is there no beginning to your tact and decency? I'm not sure that was something which really needed to be pointed out in quite that way.

Let's see how it does across the week. I would hope at least a million make the effort to check out an episode of this highly moving and important piece of television. If people can drag themselves away from the fictitious nonsense in Albert Square etc for half an hour, of course.

I really liked The Jury last night; it left us with lots of questions to be answered- I think this show would rate well if it was on weekly, rather than stripped across a week.

It is up against Death in Paradise tonight and I imagine the taget audience for both would be quite similar. Will be interesting to see how both shows fare tonight,

I am also intrigued to see the overnights for tomorrow given that 800,000 gave up on The Jury over its first hour, and Tuesday is usually a night when ITV doesn't even bother trying.

Last week, I'd've said Death In Paradise was about to get a severe kicking. Now, I'm not so sure ...

That's good for BB, one of the highest Monday ratings considering they have been on decline since 2 Fridays ago.

WW1 did OK considering it's in the worst time slot it could possibly be in, JA not performing well.

1.6m on C4 and 800k on E4 is great, but this week seems fairly quiet so I wouldn't be surprised if it drops a bit more. Things pick up again next week.

I'm sure it's a very well made and moving programme in its own way but you can hardly refuse to accept any criticism of it because of its subject matter. The only thing wrong with referring to the rating as "poor" is that ratings like that are par for the course at 7.30 on Channel Five.

As has been said, C5 have put it in probably the worst slot imaginable so if the ratings are low then it's hardly entirely the fault of soap-addled viewers ignoring it, it's just as much the fault of the channel. BBC1 have shown things like this at 9pm and pulled in decent audiences.

Kudos to C5 for doing it, but we can't just go easy on it because it's about World War I. You may as well disregard all criticism of Sing If You Can because it raised money for charity.

It's a half-hour programme, where else could they have scheduled it?

I'm not disregarding all criticism, I just don't think that was very well put. It was bordering on insensitive.

And you know as well as I do that viewers are probably 10 times as likely to watch such a programme on BBC One. But they don't appear to be doing all that much to mark it this year, nor the other major commercial channels, at least not in primetime. So yes, kudos to Channel 5.
