With the exception of The Impressions Show, a good night for BBC1. Regardless of any drop for Frozen Planet, 7 million is still a brilliant figure for any factual/wildlife programme and it will timeshift to probably near 10 million so these figures are still fantastic for BBC One. Waterloo Road was back to solid numbers for BBC1, although I think they would have liked to see it above 5 million.
ITV1 didn't do too badly, I'm surprised The Jury didn't drop below 4 million. Okay, it was beaten by Millionaire but it held up better than I was anticipating. This week's stripped episodes will still all timeshift to above 5 million so the slot average will look nice in the officials. The Millionaire specials appear to be working anywhere in the schedules, Saturday nights, Fridays at 9pm, Wednesdays at 8pm. Which is good for them, I wonder how long before they introduce normal editions live? Masterchef did well on BBC2, while Grand Designs was dented heavily by Frozen Planet. Big Brother did okay on Channel 5, but I doubt there will be any partying at C5 HQ when the overnights for Friday's final come in.

It really has. Last night's ridiculously low 0.7 is a far cry from the 1.8 that tuned into the series opener. I knew Frozen Planet would cause some damage, but I didn't expect the effects to be fatal.
Another fantastic audience for Frozen Planet. Waterloo Road holding up well too considering it just feels like there's no effort being put in the show nowadays-they aren't even playing it for laughs anymore. It's just dire. It has showed that with weak competition there's an audience of ~5m, but as soon as something strong comes along it collapses.
Solid 4m+ night for ITV1 and I don't think they could have asked for much more really. I did think The Jury would be sub 4m.

I really hope this isn't the end of the Paul Merton travel shows, think Channel 5 underestimated FP and maybe should have not made the change so quickly as it was last minute.
ITV1 starts its killer three weeks when IAC starts on Sunday. Should this show do well again, then the BBC will find it hard work on weekday nights as it will follow ITV's two big soaps. However, like the outcome of a football match, you can't predict IAC's ratings in advance, but I said last night, anything from 7 million to 11 million is possible.
Should it do well, then ITV will be very happy as it has two huge entertainment hits to live off for three weeks, the other being TXF, which is still doing well regardless. However, should IAC start to falter, then questions must be asked about the future of Ant and Dec and if this partnership going back over 20 years is coming to an end.

I have a feeling IAC could falter this series .That line up doesn't seem to be creating much of a buzz at the moment.

9 years is a long time and only BB has lasted longer in the reality stakes, I know Shipwrecked started in 2000, but has been cancelled twice and hardly figures in the ratings. However, IAC does have the capacity to surprise people, it looked like it was on the wane a few years ago but staged a huge comeback last year. Yet what does count against it as an ageing format- celebreality is a bit mid noughties now- and the fact the celebs are becoming increasingly C list.

The X Factor is sucking up most of the press at the moment; though I personally think they've gone too far this time. Anyway, moving on...
Someone remarked on my comment regarding The Jury's performance on Tuesday night - I'd argue it held up well because of the much smaller lead in; the loss of interest as it wasn't the first episode and the fact it clashed with a similar genre show on BBC One and Channel 5 (whereas it had a reality show and a documentary opposite it on Monday). With it being in the flop zone slot it could've into the 3ms. It's not impressive or brilliant but it'll do, and last night's performance should mean it retains it's audience for the next couple of nights with a Coronation Street lead in.
I understand where Robbie's coming from when he pondered aloud about You've Been Framed and Who Wants To Be A Millionnaire being moved to Tuesday's. I don't think You've Been Framed would do well opposite EastEnders though.
Waterloo Road did well with the lack of soap (er, sorry, continuing drama) opposition. The half hour slot from 8.30pm is difficult for BBC One to fill. Maybe they'll try out some 90 minute dramas once Frozen Planet has finished? Frozen Planet performed brilliantly once again last night.
Grand Designs seems to have been hurt by the tougher opposition from ITV1, but it still offered a decent lead in which Fresh Meat threw away. Big Brother didn't seem to be too effected by the muck up relating to the start time but Paul Merton isn't doing as well this series. Lost War Heroes is performing as well as it could considering the difficulty of the slot.
BBC Two had a decent night with MasterChef especially putting in a performance which leads to further questions about BBC One's treatment of the main show. The Only Way Is Essex did very well for ITV2.

Still amazed Fresh Meat got a recommission so quickly. Personally if C4 didn't want to admit defeat on all their new drama this year I'd have given Sirens the chance as I do think that has far more potential to improve than Fresh Meat does.

As with more of these stripped dramas I don't think it'll cause ITV a massive headache if it doesn't perform - they're generally one-offs anyway, although obviously if it was a hit it would be easy enough to spin a second series.
Re: Grand Designs - they're in their "revisit" stage now which usually do attract fewer viewers.

It's been the same for years though. Creatively I'm a Celeb dried up much quicker than BB in all honesty, and it's line up have been poor for years. However it's a show where it's repetitive nature doesn't seem to do it much harm at all, so they generally get away with it. I suspect ratings will decline in line with ITV's other big shows this year, but it's not going to slump.

The Masterchef scheduling is an absolute joke - three versions of it airing in completely different slots in different strategies, and the BBC2 scheduling seems the messiest of them all. They should have left it in it's nice and simply 6.30pm slot rather than start commissioning 45 minute episodes and then splitting them into 30 and 60 minute slots as they see fit.

I don't get why it hasn't been reworked into either a weekly show with 10-13 episodes at 8pm or even twice weekly. It seems the BBC want Masterchef in primetime but don't want to make the changes to do so.

Exactly - the regular series Wed & Thu at 8pm on BBC1 for 8 weeks or so, the Pros in a similar slot on BBC2 and celeb could either be weekly or keep it's original slot and replace The One Show for a few weeks.
Intriguing to see the final figures for the first series of The Jury, which was shown on six Sunday nights in February/March 2002.

Big Brother held up surprisingly well last night but it's still quite a bit down on its latter day C4 figures, let's not even look at the show's hey day as that paints an even more depressing picture.

Excellent timeshift of about 1.8m then for Frozen Planet. 9.72m is much higher than I was expecting. I wonder how it will cope with IAC next week.
DIY SOS ought beat The Jury tonight by 1m or so. Can see CS winning the night, but EE was exceptional and deserves a 9m rating. Hope Life's Too Short rates well on BBC2/HD.

He's not had the best of luck with his film roles over the years so I'm not convinced that'll be the best route for him. From everything he's said over the years I'd be surprised if he didn't move back to the UK as and when House wraps though. Whether that move results in any UK TV work is another issue entirely. I'm not sure British television can afford him anymore. Although I would like to see him working with Stephen Fry again and I suspect there could be a decent audience for a one-off Fry & Laurie (next Christmas on BBC1 maybe?).

In their defence I think that might be a season high for Harry's Law (or at least tied). However I cannot believe that they're still running repeats out of Up All Night. Of all the terrible scheduling that NBC has done in recent years that strikes me as the worst.
