And this is the level that I said The Jury would settle at. Not bad. I wonder what DIY SOS got.

With I'm A Celeb back I think it and The X Factor will be dominating the media for the next few weeks.

EDIT: And DIY SOS got 3.9m

Big Brother last night climbed to 1.76m. 2nd highest rating of the whole series (third highest including launch)

Jury boosted by Corrie lead in, as it will be tonight.

Bit poor for DIY SOS, but it won't have had a great lead in and some of "the BBC audience" will have been tuned in to BBC2's new comedy hour. So in that respect, DIY SOS did its job - offering cheap and tepid competition to the more important BBC output on the lesser channel.

proves the audience is still there for the show.
Such a shame the Direction C5 and Endemol took the show.
IT didnt need to be like Towie.

I hope in CBB 2012 they revert back and learn the lessons.

Surely it shows they can't wait to see the back of it and are watching to see if it is really going.

Doubt someone who doesn't like the show will sit through an hour of it just to wait for it to end. Tonights final maybe 2m+ then.

Signed by Katie (Sky Living): 130.000 (Nov 2011)

Sorry i'm showing my utter hatred of BB again, used to love it but now despise it and myself for watching it with all the fires of hell. Will try and control myself in future and long as I never have watch it.

Probably last summer when they had Shooting Stars, Mitchell and Webb and, er, something else from 9-10.30. Of course for many years there was a triple bill of comedy on BBC2 one night a week, initially Fridays of course, then Mondays, then Thursdays, but it's not so common these days. There's a bit less comedy about but the dedicated nights used to feature a lot of repeats so there's probably about as much new comedy on BBC2 now as there was a decade ago.

It wasn't just a comedy hour last night, natch, because the excellent Frank Skinner's Opinionated was back as well.

Which makes me wonder where these viewers have come from. Are they just timeshift viewers who have switched to watching live (or close to it) for the last few days of the series? Presumably these aren't new viewers - who watches just the final few days of a show like Big Brother?

Demographic Information for BBC1/ITV1 covering Monday 31st October to Wednesday 9th November: http://i39.tinypic.com/b4t0kx.jpg

By A18-49s in that period, the top 10 programmes (exc soaps/no duplicates) were:

1 - 22.7 - The X Factor
2 - 10.8 - Frozen Planet
3 - 10.2 - Downton Abbey
4 - 10.1 - Strictly Come Dancing
5 - 8.3 - Harry Hill's TV Burp
6 - 8.0 - Young Apprentice
7 - 7.3 - Doc Martin
8 - 7.1 - Crimewatch
9 - 6.8 - The Cube
10 - 6.2 - The Jury

Note: Above ratings point refer to % of A18-49 population watching those shows. So 22.7% of the 18-49 population in UK watched that episode of XF, 10.8% of 18-49 UK population watched FP, etc...

Yes, some of them probably were 'timeshift' viewers. Live shows usually timeshift lower than the highlights shows. Also remember, it's not the exact same 1.3/1.4m people watching Big Brother every night. The reach for the show is probably around 2m, so that's why certain episodes like eviction shows can rate higher than the bog standard highlights. I doubt it's down to new viewers (who'd never watched any other episode) watching at this late stage of the competition.

The bloke deficit stood out to me too. Nothing under 59% female on ITV1 aside from the football. On BBC1 it's less pronounced, with a few 51F/49M splits (in line with the UK population IIRC) but generally still female-skewed.

And if you want high gross numbers you need to score well in the 65+ age range (unless you are X Factor)

Countryfile (Sun) 3.789m
Doc Martin (Mon) 3.514m
Antique Roadshow (Sun) 3.288m
SCD (Sat) 3.154m

Not very good demo's for The Jury. Under 0.3m in 16-34 for Tuesday and Wednesdays episodes. Seems like Joanna Lumley's travel show would have brought in a similar amount of ad revenue at a fraction of the cost.

Dramas like this on ITV1 and BBC1 usually do have a pretty low 16-34 audience. That comes with the territory. Ad spots for ITV dramas are pretty much sold based on ABC1s (maybe apart from Primeval), for which The Jury has done alright (what you'd expect really - a 45-50% ABC1 skew). In this case, what it gets in the 16-34s from an advertising perspective, wouldn't matter as it's the ABC1 which would count. Just as how for some entertainment shows, it's the 16-34s which solely matter and ABC1s is irrelevant in terms of ad spots. The Jury itself definitely would be commanding a higher amount of ad revenue than Joanna Lumley's travel show: around £0.9-1.3m per hour compared to Lumley's £0.7m based on those figures. In terms of profit though, as with loads of ITV1 dramas, in the short term the factual show would probably be bringing in more profit. But once the international sales (it's an ITV Studios production) and ITV3 repeats for The Jury are factored in, it'll most likely be a different story in the long term.
