Tuesday nights used to be one of the bigger ones for Five, but now I think we need to start referring to it as Five's Flopzone

It seems to have bounced back from the dog days of the spring when it was down to 800,000 and a few of us were having bets on when Hollyoaks would be axed. At the end of the day it has good demos, 1.4 million( mostly under 25s) is an excellent rating and if Hollyoaks was axed, I'd guarantee something far worse like DOND could end up in its slot.
Good to see Death in Paradise only dropping a little bit. Hopefully it won't drop below 5m for the rest of its run. I watched it for the first time last night and thought it was a great show.
Disappointing for Tool Academy, but Him and Her on BBC3 pulled in a good number. Hollyoaks really is riding high at the moment... I wonder if the viewers will stick around after the Silas storyline has finished though? They're going to have to try really hard to make the viewers stick with it. It would be ideal if they had another big storyline brewing in the background now.

Also surprised at how old Merlin skews - older than Strictly. And not very much in the younger demos considering it's a family drama.

What I find amazing is how much higher than US 18-49s these are. Can you imagine a US show getting a 22.3!?

Yep, Life Stories' demographics change a lot depending on the guest. Last series, the show went from 52% in A18-49 one episode (Russell Brand) to 32% in another episode (Anne Widdecombe). That's a big range it has. I suspect next week's Rolf Harris episode won't be too big of a ratings puller among the 18-49s!

It does seem to have bounced back recently, though, and to be fair it could have been axed if Channel 4 decided it wasn't part of its creative renewal. However, the Oaks is a totem in the Channel 4 schedule and I think if it scores above a million consistently, it should stay.
Yet surprisingly Channel 4 have given that clunker Shipwrecked yet another chance. This really should have been axed permanently in 2009 when its second chance failed.
Death in Paradise held up but its denting CSI Miami, Real Food Family Cook Off and Superior Interiors ended on a whimper. London: The Inside Story and WWI Lost Heroes should boost the share for Channel 5.

The Paddy Ashdown docco on the Cockleshell Heroes worked well for BBC2, it was impressively researched and imaginative in its use of archive (there being no archive of the actual event). Paddy did manage to mention his time in the SBS but only in passing.I think he might do well for the BBC fronting a series on similar crucial military events, perhaps in both world wars.

What always amazes me about soaps is they know the big storylines bring in the ratings and so why do they then return to the mundane.
I would argue that Channel 4 should make Hollyoaks older in character profiles because no one gives a stuff about the kids!
Very solid retention for Death in Paradise last night. Also, simply superb numbers for Hollyoakes - a soap that was meant to be on it's death bed six months ago. It's numbers are like gold dust for E4 in particular, at the moment.

- Frozen Planet had a very even distribution. Equalling the Friday panel shows in terms of an 18-49 skew. Great to see and follows on from some pretty good demo numbers from quite serious, factual programmes on BBC One recently. It's the dramas that really skew old for the channel.
- Merlin has a very different profile to it's Saturday drama stablemate. The Doctor Who finale (which also had overnights of 6.1m) had over one and a half times the number of kids and over double the number of 16-34's. Meanwhile, Merlin has double the 65+ audience. I suppose TXF opposition has a lot to do with it.
- Both talent shows skew very heavily female. That's unsurprising, but it seems odd that they're quite similar. I'd have thought Strictly would scare off far more men than TXF, but apparently not. I suppose the generally larger female skew of ITV as a whole contributes to that.
- The sight of Antiques Roadshow resolutely thrashing the Sunday XF, by a ratio of 2:1, in that all important pensioner demo just makes me smile. (They then all promptly find the remote to switch over to Downton )

From Jake Humphrey's Twitter, the Indian Grand Prix had a peak of 3.9m on Saturday and 7.2m on Sunday. Very obviously that is a combined live plus re-run peak, but still very high.
