ITV could battle that with:

Except DA is a 2 hour ep (unless they strip out all the ads on the basis nobody will be paying, other than DFS...)

It'll get a free run the following weekend anyway.”

I highly doubt they are nervous. SCD would probably be dented slightly but I mean slightly. Those that do watch both are going to know that the first 30 mins of X Factor is going to be pad, pad, pad and the SCD show is pretty important too, viewers find out who has made it to the final. I dont understand why the Beeb are helping out ITV and X Factor like this, unless they have agreed to let the BBC have a free run on another night.

Piers Morgan's Life Stories I believe.

Maybe ITV1 have used Downton Abbey as a bargaining chip - maybe promising to keep it away from Christmas Day or possibly the Sunday before Christmas if the BBC are planning to split Strictly over two nights?

I wouldn't be tempted to watch any of that 'live' on the night. The BBC1 schedule is looking increasingly stale this year.

other than Micheal McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, that could well be about right.

According to chortle, MM is definitely getting a BBC1 Xmas day slot: http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2011/0...s_day_roadshow

in that case exact timings aside, Christmas Day could be just THAT plain.

guess we just have to wait for the double listings information, even if the first week, will go to 23rd, and have very few Christmas related changes. Obviously we will have to wait for New Years listing this year.

ITV's schedule for that week on DigiGuide is actually just a big blank.

According to The Guardian yesterday, the match against Sweden was more or less arranged because ITV are paying for X friendlies a year. The Holland match has been rearranged, to next February, but they would have played a friendly against someone that day even if the Holland match had gone ahead in August, so this Sweden game was arranged to replace that so they could have the prescribed number this season.

I can't remember a time when England have played two friendlies back to back other than just before a tournament, normally they'd just play one and let players go back to their clubs earlier, but clearly both England and Sweden were at a loose end as they'd both already qualified so it was arranged as a fairly last minute thing.

I think the Royal Variety's always been staged on a Monday, because for a couple of years in the seventies the Beeb showed it live on a Monday, around the Nine O'Clock News. I assume it's because Monday is normally the quietest night in a theatre as harldy anyone goes out.

The Queen Mother used to attend a load of them when she was alive, it's still a senior Royal and it's a prestigious show. I remember Princess Margaret used to go to the children's version. Nobody's not going to watch the Royal Variety because it's only Anne.

I dunno, if 'stEnders have a bloody big plot then that'd be a draw, Doctor Who is always good on Christmas Day and Strictly is in the grand tradition of the likes of The Two Ronnies and Paul Daniels, as well as being a useful opponent to Corrie. And I still wonder if Michael McIntyre is going on Christmas Day, no matter how excited the press office got in June. In any case it's more appealing than 2000, which we were discussing the other day.

Haemorrhaging viewers each day though.

Well done FP for keeping around 6m viewers. With a bigger than usual timeshift likely, that should still be pushing 8m in the proper ratings.

C5 had a disasterous evening last night. Apparently 0.3m at 9pm- could that be a record low for C5 in a weeknight 9pm slot?

All the BB viewers would have been watching IAC, they should have put it on Tuesday.

You don't know that it was. I imagine WR had more viewers for its second half than for its first.

And, besides, YBF used to be top of the raings with 16m viewers so which programme's had the biggest fall from grace?

(Although I don't know why I'm defending Waterloo Road. Big pile of steaming crap.)
