Strictly is becoming a bit like Let's Dance for Comic Relief

The lack of content and abundance of themes with people dressing up as Danny Zuko or the Devil is just really starting to remind me of that Comic Relief show where people dress up as various people from yesteryear, and its all about tricks and no actual dancing. Which is fine, for that show, but not for this one.

None of the dances this year bar Chelee's quickstep and Jason's tango have made me go "wow"... and that's because they were loaded with storytelling, great technique and CONTENT!

I also really miss the traditional music. They all suffer with 'pop' because its too electronic and lacks drama.

The whole point of the show is that they're learning to BALLROOM dance... There's no point in the show anymore if all they're going to do is fly/ponce around/play a fake piano/comb my hair like i'm in Grease.........

Before we know it Robbie will be dressed up like Cheryl Cole...

Its all a bit of a joke now really. The ratings look good now but people are going to get bored of the endless props and pyrotechnics every week and it'll go down the pan.

It is an ENTERTAINMENT show. I'm entertained by seeing people learn to ballroom dance!!!!!! I am not entertained by Lulu flying down from the ceiling, it requires no skill.

RANT OVER

To be fair, they only went OTT with those particular props, costumes and moves for the Halloween theme night.

Ah yes, it must be the Highways Agency that left the lampposts in the way of Holly & Artem...

i get your point..it seems the way it is heading. I wish they would just revert back to type. I hate the props and theme nights.

I completely agree OP, but this is what the BBC wants SCD to be and thats it, I'm afraid.

Essentially they want every dance to be a "show dance" and they want "entertainment" to trump dance content and quality.

But why are they too stupid to realise that its a recipe for disaster?

I mean look at Lets Dance... You see people dressed up like people in Grease, prancing around with props... maybe there's a few poorly done tricks and thrusting... and maybe a man dressed as a woman... and maybe you let out a small chuckle. But after a while these cheap thrills become boring. All the "spectacular" fireworks/pyros/fancy dress becomes mundane cos it happens all the time...

Its just not quality entertainment. Its a short, sharp burst. Its dumbing down the show because they think its what the audience wants when in fact they're ruining what made the show great.

What will they do for a show dance now when they basically do one every week?

Its supposed to be a challenge to learn all these ballroom disciplines and also make it entertaining... and its thrilling to see people improve and go on a 'journey'.

We don't have that anymore. Lulu gets praise for wasting time flying around the studio which anyone can do and as soon as she does some actual Paso steps its a total mess and she's being dragged around again by Brendan... but oh well... SHE FLEW AND HAD STICKS POKING OUT HER SLEEVES! How spectacular

oh, i'm ranting again... soz
