Coffee Machines
Can anyone recommend me a good coffee machine. I once bought a machine for home use (I can't remember the name of it), but you had to buy these coffee t-bag things that you put in. By the time you had a cup of coffee the drink was tepid. Also, barely anyone sold the t-bag thingies so i ended up buying a stash online which cost a small fortune. I got the machine out to use after about a year of it sitting dormant, and it had stopped working at all. I finally threw out the t-bags after getting fed up of seeing them in the cupboard.
So - i now want another coffee machine. I haven't had one now for about 3 years, and i think it would be nice to have something that will make a perfect drink with a flick of a switch. My requirements are that it is small and the coffee is readily available. Any recommendations ? |

I use a Gaggia Baby expresso type machine. Still a little bit of flaffing around to set it up but at least it uses ground coffee which is way cheaper than buying bags or capsules. I pre-heat the milk in the microwave for lattes then finish off with the steamer which saves time.
I investigated a real automatic bean to cup machine but they were way too expensive. |

We use a dolce gusto machine easy to use pods quite tasty coffee, and if you pre warm the cup the coffee is hot enough for us. Coffee I believe is destroyed if it is too hot anyway whereas tea loves boiling water.

I've got a Nespresso Pixie and it's fantastic. It makes amazing tasting coffee really quickly and takes up very little room and is effortless to use and clean. The milk frother that you can buy separately is the best I've ever used, it makes perfect, creamy froth, even with skimmed milk, and it doesn't disappear after a couple of sips like some of them do.
The only downside is that you can only buy the coffee capsules online or at a few select outlets, and it's not cheap. |

DeLonghi's are quite good. Mine has a timer function which I find pretty useful as steaming coffee is ready for me when I wake up
It then automatically turns off after a couple of hours in case I forget to do it. I've had it for about 2 years without issue and it makes good normal coffee from ground so I can buy what I like. Doesn't have any frothers or the like though. The only annoying thing is the way you set the clock and alarm. If you have to wake up half an hour early you have to go all the way through the 24 hour clock - it takes bloody ages. The Coffee's good though

A few years ago 'Which' magazine tested quite a few , the winner was a German brand - Melitta , it was the only one to keep the coffee at the correct temperature. They make a machine that will make just enough for one mug of coffee if that's all you need - http://www.anothercoffee.co.uk/products/item109457.aspx

You are better using a machine which takes ground coffee or a cafetiere. Ihave the latter, but also a Braun Tassimo which I haven't used in well over a year; the pods are priced exorbitantly. The cheapest at the moment is approx £3.89 - for 16! I love strong coffee, so I buy instant espresso, both Nescafe and Carte Noire which are both just under £4.00 a jar. In comparison with the Tassimo pods, however, that's a snip.

Get up at 5.45 put a bit of water in machine, stick a pod in it press start. 5.47 drink coffee. 5.50 start to clean up 5.51 finish cleaning up, head for shower. Better for environment? The pods recycle, you only heat the water you need, more expensive, not that I've noticed. Better coffee, just, but I haven't time to get up and grind beans first thing in the morning. |

These manual filter coffee makers are the ideal thing to make real coffee without any fuss , simply pour on water just off the boil . They work just as good as a filter machine and if you use a filter paper with them there is no washing up to do afterwards ; http://www.anothercoffee.co.uk/products/item110310.aspx

It's not lazy, it's more the time factor

Anyone else a Bialetti fan? Makes great coffee very simply and cheaply, doesn't take long and tastes smoother and less grainy than a cafetiere.
