can you even get hp touchpads any more ?

For what you want to do a hanspree, advent vega or archos should all be fine.

the Touchpad is an incredible device on its own, especially at the low prices you can get them for now. I got mine for £200 from ebay (missed the initial sale) and it's worth the cost.

And that's before I stuck Android on it.

The Touchpad no doubt! OK, the iPads a bit better and got more apps but for basic tasks at half the price for me its hp everytime.

The HP Touchpad is a nice bit of kit, but I wouldn't buy a device that was announced as discontinued almost before it had hit the shops.

If you just want something cheap for web browsing and putting your own films on, then it's fine, but if you want something that'll get continued support, have supported apps or services in the future, then I'd think twice.

As a for instance HP/Palm have a Palm ID which you can use to keep your contacts and calendar in the cloud as a backup. What happens when they decide to discontinue that too? It's worth considering that.

HP TouchPad is really good and is as low as $99, however it's discontinued and may not have further updates. So that may not be an updated device and in 2012 it would look even older. iPad 2 costs more but you may not fear on getting support. Moreover, it's worth the money! Paying to relieve your fears is good! You may also try Galaxy Tab or any other android Tablet at a lower price.
