Matt's album now down to 4.99 at Asda. Is this a good sign? Will it lead to more sales and a re-entry into the hit parade top 10?

I'm not sure being bargain-binned in any shop is a good thing.

What was the original price?

Sounds to me as though they've overstocked and can't shift them

Still, if it does re-enter the top ten at least we'll know why.

Yeah that's just natural market behaviour, it's most likely (based on its chart run) that the album's supply to Asda exceeded its demand (surplus), therefore the price has to come down to a new equilibrium price where supply and demand can hopefully be equal again. So it may cause a few more sales, but definitely not many.

Economics knowledge ftw!

Stores discount goods for reasons other than overstock, all superstores have dozens of special offers everyday.

But of course chosing the option that shows Matt in the worse possible light as a fact is the way to go...for a change..not...

Even the great Adele's album has been on offer at Amazon , all albums are discounted for a period of time, so I wouldn't read too much into the Asda discount.

That said, Matt needs to play a blinder with the next single release to make any impact on album sales in the deluge of new ones to be released up until Xmas, Having watched the new video, this song won't do it IMO.

I spoke briefly with the store manager and asked him how the album was selling and why the discount. He said something like: "we've sold more easter cards than Matt albums over the past ten days" so I took it to mean that they wanted to shift more Matt to free up space for expansion of the greetings card section, which is right next door. The music section is small anyway so it makes sense I guess.

amazon sold Noel Gallagher's and albums for £3.99 in the first week of sale - are they bargain binned? Matt's album was no 13 in the midweeks in it's 3 week of sales - but please feel free to invent any shit to justify your perception that he is a flop

You asked the store manager a specific question, but you can't actually remember exactly what he said. I think someone is telling porky pies.

Serious issues if you felt compelled to do this!

Wow, you posted at nearly 1 in the morning to share this important news with Matt fans so they can claim a discount, how sweet of you!
In any case, you must have a VERY generous ASDA store because in mine this morning it was priced at £8.00 as was the majority of their chart CDs and there certainly wasn't any chart CD of the last few months anywhere near that low?
Is it a special offer for one week for that store?

The website also lists it as £8.00. Clearly as you considered the discount to be so embarrassing to talk to the store manager, I'm surprised you didn't take a picture of this embarrassing price tag to share with us all so we could all mock and laugh too?

Please do share which store you got this amazing discount from as it clearly hasn't been passed to mine? Mine seems to take the view that it is still selling well (check out their online chart) but yours does not, how incredibly curious.

This was the offer on chart CDs in mine.

http://direct.asda.com/%C2%A38-Chart...efault,sc.html

I believe the discount price you were searching for OP is £8.00, you know the same as Coldplay etc

In any case Asda seem to like pricing CDs either on the £ exactly or something .7 eg 4.47 5.97 so again its curious why this store the OP visited seems to have completely gone against their pricing policy? Not that I'm doubting you at all OP you understand just as a previous ASDA worker at Christmas time the .7 thing has stuck with me so perhaps you are confused.

You arent credible until you've been part of a shelf clearance sale.

Matt's album was 99p in my local charity shop this morning. Obviously a new sales initiative by the record company and expect it to be back in the top ten at the weekend...

Do re sales from charity shops count then? No I can't imagine they do unless the OCC call every one up to find if there have been any sales for 'such and such CD' this week.

Again another generous store! Any charity shop I've been in is a right rip off for CDs still selling stuff from 5 years ago at 2.99+ and that includes some singles plus so that's a SUPER generous offer on a brand new CD.

Isn't it strange how it's only the people with a dislike of Matt that have come across these stupendously good bargains. It's not fair really I'd love to save money and get some of these ridiculously cheap offers for family.

Not sure that anybody has been 'owned' exactly but those who realised that the thing was a wind-up from the off can at least claim that they haven't made arses of themselves

After all the hate Matt threads on here and rejoicing on his supposed downfall it is no surprise that Matt fans didn't realise it was a wind up

The problem is though that certain members of this forum are so DESPERATE to see him fail and have even admitted as much that people WILL believe you. As some posts showed, which is why I was merely pointing out why it couldn't be true

Not everyone takes these things as wind ups, people jump on any chance to point and laugh. And then such 'wind ups' get reported as truths elsewhere. 'Have you seen Matt's album is bargain bin already?'. It happens. Same as people were happy to believe the ludicrous low figures for the single originally posted. Yeh it did BAD (not sure any fan could deny that) but it didn't do as bad as one poster tried to claim initially!
