Well in that case he's entirely unproven, but I suspect if he's done as good a job as you say on Ironman 3 he'll be tied in a deal with Disney/Marvel for a while yet.

For me his pedigree seems to be in balls-out action blockbusters, Bond requires something different IMHO, something with a little more class.

I just hope it's not David bloody Yates, the most boring director imaginable.

I've not seen any of his work, but from what I know of The Escapist and RotPotA this is exactly the sort of 'something different' I mean.

(Rupert Wyatt I mean).

Ooh, big news. I thought Mendes was almost certainly in the chair for the next Bond, but it's not to be. Given Skyfall's performance, it's a question of what direction they want Bond to take. They never bring in truly big names for Bond, so it's intriguing to speculate who they'll choose.

Tom Hooper (The Damned United/The King's Speech/Les Miserables), might make a good choice. Classy, solid, adaptable, and more concerned with putting the project across as best as possible rather than stamping his identity over it.

Plus he shows a keen eye for the visuals - anyone who can make a film about Leeds United interesting to look at knows a thing or two. Pair him with Roger Deakins (hopefully - Skyfall looked amazing), and that could well be a winner.

Why does it have to be a British director?

William Friedkin wanted to do a Bond movie but they wouldn't let him do the action scenes...the man who gave us The French Connection not being allowed to do action

Nothing against Mendes personally, but the further and longer he stays away from Bond movies, the better.

I thought Skyfall was a bit silly really, right from the opening sequence, where hes chasing a guy and he hop's on a motorbike and oh thats handy the keys are in it....then he's on a train and somehow gets inside a JCB, which I'm pretty sure would be locked when in transit on a train, and then low and behold the keys are in it.....then he gets shot off the roof of the train and falls about 200ft into a river and survives...(ok so there wouldnt be much film left if he died 5 mins in but c'mon!)

Lots of other nonsense too...the tube coming through the tunnel into the sewer, Bardem's Hair, the scooby doo section leading up to the finale where they concoct booby traps from bellends, Bond and M jumping into the silver Aston and the old style theme tune kicking in making it feel like a daft parody..

The only good thing was Dench dying at the end so we wont have to see her scowling old face anymore.

I thought the Aston Martin bit was brilliant, just a nod to the 50th year and a loving tribute

That's such a coincidence, as I read your review ...the word bellend sprung to mind.

Infinitely more preferable than your childish surmising of Skyfall.

I don't know what pic you mean, but there is scene in the movie where he does take a swim in a pool and then gets out of the water and sits poolside.

I love it when people just watch the sarcastic knowitall Youtube takedowns of Skyfall and then just regurgitate them on Forum threads.

I didn't love Skyfall, it's not the Best Bond Ever, and it has a lot of problems, but Bardem's hair or the fact that a chase in a Bond film is a little OTT are not relevant concerns, it's a Bond film FFS.

Shanghai, just after he's done all the testing he goes to Shanghai and is seemingly trying to get himself back in physical shape.
