I love M in a flat cap not particularly a lover of the hats themselves but he always looks great in one. And as you say he does like his layers......he really seems to feel the cold poor sausage.

They both looked gorgeous and hot, and (no bias opinion here, as I like them quite a lot for different reasons) Matt B added a little extra; that is, his hot and sexy look couldn’t take away his cuteness and adorableness from him at all. It is such a rare personality that contrasts in one person at the same time.”

Thank you soo much Emma for those AT pics yesterday. You all know what AT did to me it wasn't the guyliner itself that caused the fuss for me - as you say most of the male pro's had it that night for the group dance and others had it at times....Jimi and Harry this year. But none of them even caused a raised eyebrow. I have no idea why it was so hot but it was ...... I'll go with your theory cos I like it

I don’t like Matt’s AS red shirt cos it looked too baggy when he danced around. I didn’t bring us chances to see his beautiful lines and postures. It could have been better if it was a white shirt, some sort of transparent one, and shouldn’t be put in the trousers. AV’s dress was beautiful though. Her hair colour became more shining from week 5 so it looked rather hot and unique to look at. Some of my friends envied her and braved enough to dye their hairs red.

Their dances I would like to see once again are Charleston, AS, AT, Rumba, and Paso (not in particular order though) cos’ I genuinely think they were superbly choreographed as well. I just wished Matt could have spared a day or half from CF filming to add it to his training hours. For their showdance, if AV could take out a few little pauses, it would have been absolutely show-stopping routine, for me at least.

I wonder what AV thoughts (as a choreographer, not as a pro dancer) are by now. Would she really regret that she did create traditional routines on Series 8 to win favour and gain supports from the judges? Or would she keep them as her life time masterpieces? That’s a good question, only the lady herself has the answers.”

Thats really interesting Emma and I agree. Without dragging up old gripes the whole AS episode was really sad for me as I think it was deliberately under-appreciated. I loved the choreography and I thought it was a fabulous and brave contrast to the all-out knicker-waving latin of the week before. No one else has ever had that much versatility for me but that wasn't credited.

Agree completely about the red blouse - hideous.

On the training time......it would have been very interesting to see the effect a few extra hours would have had. Someone on twitter yesterday found a record of training times for that series and it listed P&J as highest followed by M&A and then K&A with about 10 hours less in total. I find that impossible to believe to be honest and I wonder how that was calculated as the training times weren't given during the series were they? If it was time spent together then possibly - but it seemed that alot of the time for M&A was spent travelling. Having said that K&A did have at least 1 less week to train at the start so taking into account they'd presumably have practiced at least 10 hours that week then M&A were still behind.
I think a few extra hours would have made a huge difference to M's confidence at least.

I was quite intrigued by aliona's different approach this year. I don't think she necessarily started out with that idea as her cha cha with harry on week one was very 'aliona' for me - and hence my favourite dance of the series for them. However she did then seem to calm things down and tow the line alot more with the result that I didn't enjoy it nearly as much. I think what it came down to was that with Matt she had a partner who would basically do whatever she suggested and do it well but they didn't have the time needed to really polish and perfect the routines. With Harry I think the opposite applied. He obviously could also dance everything well but - for me - didn't have much of a stand out factor. Their best bet was to perfect the basic things which they had the time to do.
Horses for courses and all that. Knowing the best approach for different partners is part of her job I guess.

...but if harry could backflip it might have all been a different story

Of all the M&A dances the only one I though didn't work in part was the showdance but I'm 100% convinced that was due to A's injury. There were a couple of moments where it seemed something was missing and I suspect that was where the backflips etc she'd been practicisng during the week should have been. I still loved it for what it was.....what they wanted to do rather than what they 'should' do

EDIT : OH for goodness sake!!!! bloomin' smiley police (frowns & stomps off.....)

Hi – nice to know you like Matt’s pics. I captured and posted some of Matt’s screenshots from SCD here whenever I had time but I don’t have any more pics ready to post just yet. I will keep capture more pics of Matt and Aliona and post them when I have some spare time...

Rita – so he is affectionately called ‘the Fabulous Baker Boy’!

Bee – re-training statistics, could they provide details breakdown schedules of M&A actually on the dance floor for their training? Not just lazily adding up the hours they were together. If that statistic was correct why did Tess and Claudia repeatedly mention their short of training hours unnecessarily? Were the girls blind and deaf then? I don’t think so. M & A clearly said they didn’t want to give any excuses and they just wanted to go out and did their best to entertain us viewers, which was what they did. I didn’t know about Kara’s training though. At the end of launch show Burce said the couples had only 3 weeks left to learn their first dance. That’s all I know.

Re – AV’s different approach, winning by tactic does the matter. I have no reason to downgrade last series but lack of ambition or just played the cards closer to their chests, whatever it was, it couldn’t create highly competitive atmosphere among the contestants which was what the series itself had been missing. So we have already had the winners at very early stage. As for M&A’s showdance, AV was on pain-killers, they did take off AV’s backflip Matt teaching her which might suggest last minutes changes from the original routine. And Kara had back pain as well.

Matt was looking lovely on CF tonight but his segments were too short.

There was also the week that Artem was injured, so I guess that would give them 2 weeks less training than M&A if you include the week at the beginning. And I suppose with M&A it wasn't just the restricted time but the unusual circumstances and odd places they had to train in. I said in the beginning that Matt knew what he was signing up for and whether or not it fitted in with his working life, but of course they didn't know the TOS incident was going to happen, or the extreme weather conditions.

Re Aliona's change in choreography. I've wondered if she was asked (told?) to change it to something more traditional and LG-friendly. There's so much chopping and changing of professional dancers these days she may have been worried. At any rate I thought she looked a little subdued throughout this series. Certainly not the fiery little person she was with Matt. At least that's the impression I got.

So another Matt-lite CF this week. It seems to happen so much now as to have become the norm. I won't complain because for all I know it might be his choice. He might be finding CF, TOS and the upcoming Olympics rather a full plate, and have asked for lighter CF duties. I still get to see him five days a week

I've been very good tonight and instead of wastefully throwing away a chicken carcass have boiled it down and made a lovely rich stock, which I will now freeze. Don't know where I've got these sudden housewiffery habits from!

Evening

Not alot of matt on cf, at the beginning and at the end as normal, only voice overs for the vt's and ellie did some of them
The warrior war horse piece was lovely, but you didn't see much of matt riding with brough, and no galloping across the fields.
The speed date walking was a bit cheesy, funny that matt said he was happy with his wife before giving it a gaw, wonder if he got many ticks from the single ladies.
He did look lovely in his flatcap anf red jacket, nice bit of stubble going on.

Evening all

Well imo not an outstanding CF tonight mattwise and not one to keep for posterity. The speedating walk was a bit naff and cheesy (even OH commented). He has many commitments at the mo so maybe something has to give. Even MB only has 24 hrs in the day

Loved the Warrior story but all the horsey views were from afar - more's the pity particularly as Brough praised him not once but neigh twice (pardon the pun) for his horsemanship.

Dont forget that When K won SCD she did say that if M had had more time to train she would never have won.

Off to glance at the luvvie fest for a short while and then bath and bed

Well back to the sofa tomorrow and which delightful guests will we see this week

CCM to all....not a vintage CF tonight, too much horse, not enough Matt! And the speed-date walking item didn't come across too well. And the VTs were a bit random, worthy of TT methinks! A disappointment but we are grateful for any crumbs of a Mattilicious nature.

Never fear, we will get our money's worth tomorrow. Looked on FB for the guest on tomorrow's OS, but it's not on there yet.

Sleep tight lovely ladies. I wish you dreams of our lovely dancing farmer climbing hills in his flat cap. xx

Afternoon everyone...very quiet on here today.

Perhaps it'll liven up this afternoon!

OK, so I've had the window done, seen my friend, had my lunch, and nobody has disturbed this forum! All thudded out no doubt by the thought of us on the same speed-date-walking expedition as Matt.

Hope everyone is having a great Monday (although it's pretty gloomy here). Mine could be a bit better as I'm on the l*msip today as the cold that I've managed to avoid all winter has finally knocked on my door. Hope all poorly bakerettes are now on the mend......

Any idea of the guest tonight, anyone? Haven't had a chance to look today, hope he/she is a good'un......

Kara was banned from starting training for the first week after the launch show due to the training she did for the SR strictly thing. The same as harry had to miss the first week this year. I think the training log was in the SCD annual but I've forgotten who mentioned it on twitter. I have no idea where the figures came from as you say they didn't know about them during the series so how did they work them out for the end? bizarre.....

I don't think Aliona deliberately changed her approach this year for any reason other than the fact that it suited her partner better. She gave Harry far simpler routines early on which they had time to perfect. Thats the 'ideal world' scenario I guess as it meant later on the basics were already im place to apply to other dances. Maybe she figured that approach wouldn't work with Matt & their time pressures. I think Chelsee gave Harry very good competition - in fact I think she's as good as dancer as him just not as popular. I think the winner of this series was clear from about week 2-3, as soon as it was obvious Harry was good I don't think anyone stood a chance against the McFly votes.

Funny - I don't really feel as if we're seeing much less of Matt on CF lately He's only ever done the one day and he's still following the same routine of travelling down the night before if needed to start at daybreak. The only difference at the moment being probably that they're finishing a bit earlier cos of the short days. At the start of TT feb/March last year I think they had alot of SE/London area CF's due to JB's radio commitments so less travelling about but basically I think we've always just had the 2 segments plus links we're getting now.
Another factor could be some of the subjects he covers probably take longer to film per minute shown than others. For example I imagine caving/climbing, going down mines or even the barge one travelling along the canal probably take more setting up etc than say Adams farm or one of JC's food or retail reports. As he's getting alot of those activities lately that might be shortening his minutes a bit.....but I'm not convinced it is.

Funny CF yesterday really - everyone seemed to feel the same. My main problem was the fact I really hate to hear or think about animals suffering so I don't enjoy 'war horse' type subjects full stop. I had one hand over my ears at times yesterday in case I heard something unpleasant. Thats just me and not a problem with the subject but it meant I didn't enjoy it as much as normal. The speed dating thing i thought was just a bit wierd and irrelevent. Matt didn't look comfy with it at all either. Added to the less than inspiring subjects on other reports it wasn't a vintage CF for me.....

but i did like the flat cap

and this utterly wonderful pic has just thudded onto my twitter doormat making me smile alot

Evening all. I have a useless left arm at the moment after injection so typing with right hand only. Add to that cat stretched out on keyboard and life is very difficult.

Still, I thought I'd lost my ID card earlier until doctor called to say I'd left it there. So things aren't all bad.

I'll join in with Bee's comments about Countryfile. We're not suddenly getting less Matt time than before. Believe me I count it

When making the nuts I obviously take all the Matt bits so I get an accurate timing of him on the show. There's only been a couple of times it dips below 10 minutes - and that was when he was in heavy training for the Rickshaw Challenge (Cranborne Chase episode) and the Christmas episode (where he was only there for a couple of hours - I suspect because it was around the time he'd have been sorting out new BBC contracts...).

Consistently he's on between 11-15 minutes, normally 12-14. Which given he's only got one day of filming to Ellie's 2 is quite remarkable. There are 2 main presenters, 2 key features (John & Adam) and the weather - plus at least one "feature presenter" per show. For Matt to manage to be in 20% of the show with maybe 10% of the total filming time shows the BBCs commitment to Matt as a lead presenter on the show.

When Julia's back and there's more hours of daylight to film in I actually expect his time to increase slightly - because they do like to make more of the bit at the end with Matt & Julia's brother/sister vibe. However, I do also expect Julia to take some of the link duty as she is their other lead and it's only fair.

I think perhaps perception of Matt time on the show is skewed sometimes because it seems to go so quickly. I've been guilty myself of thinking a segment was only 5 minutes and it turned out to be 7.5. Last night will I suspect turn out to be about 13 minutes of Matt as it was 7+ minutes to start, 4-5 minutes on the speed dating and about 1.5 minutes on links and intros.

I will say I do prefer shows with a consistent theme to what Matt is doing though - like the railway trips or walks with links from places along the way - particular when the other stories link back to what he's doing. That just feels more coherent and seems a better use of his time...

What's that you say . PLEASE SPEAK UP
Well 6.58 is always the highlight of the day (3 days per wek for me) ,We are a motley crew at the mo.

Actually KK - timing for MB is correct. Last night did not seem to be the best use of "resources" though, One of the best recently was the railway programme which linked all the various vt's very well. Just that sometime must admit to feeling a tad selfish as in "please sir can we have some more". Quite apt being 200 years ince the birth of Dickens

Oh no Sky not you as well. - chucks the kleenex over followed by a hot toddy. Sniff sniff,

Yes Omid was a good guest. Seemed bemused by all the facts that they had dug up about him. He is very funny.

Loved the close ups. The stubble appears to be here to stay apart from when one is dancing at the palace of course.

Saw most of OS tonight, Omid was a funny guy and there was a nice vibe. Matt looked extremely good and the cameraperson was aware of that as he/she was zooming up close to Matt's face, what a gawgus sight for sore eyes (which mine are at the moment )

Think everyone feels quite happy this evening, shame the OS only lasts for the half-hour, but we got a lot of Baker for our buck......
