I find it endearing, she seems quite sweet and goodnatured just very misunderstood. People say she's cocky yet I get the exact opposite impression from her, that she's underconfident

I get the impression she's over-thinking her answers for some reason, very, very strange. And I don't see how she can succeed in an industry which requires a lot of promotional work and interviews.

I always got the impression Simon would have signed Aiden if only his interviews weren't so awkward.

Perhaps they will get training in this if they do win. I think media training is part of the whole process.

As for Aiden perleese, he wasn't signed because he was intolerably bad at singing.

And yet, Simon changed the rules just to get Aiden on the tour?

So somebody being shy is now an offence to be called out on now!!

It seems to me that off stage she is shy and maybe not comfortable with being interviewed, hardly the crime of the century!!.

I would take her shy demeanour over Frankie's abrasive cocky demeanour any day of the week

Perhaps so as not to revert to her true 'bully' persona?

I think the X Factor is a means to an end and she has contempt for it while feeling uncomfortable with the new experience of live television. Her attitude is to get through it saying as little as possible on camera. She believes a credible music career is a realistic goal and doesn't want to be defined by a television edit endlessly available on YouTube. The judges are fools that must be suffered for now while she gains the exposure that will bring her to the attention of more desirable collaborators. She mistrusts the whole process and is right to do so. All she's there to do is sing for two minutes each week on television and she does it well.

So....a bit like Matt Cardle then?

Me, I just think she is a robot.

I think Misha comes across as sweet when being interviewed personally, she seemed polite to me

This is my only problem with Misha. Obviously she's a great singer and entertainer, but I just don't believe the way she is coming across in interviews. It's hard for me to believe that she is a shy girl when she's so confident while she is on the stage. And especially with the comments that Tulisa made about her 2 weeks ago. I know that we already established that Misha is in fact not a bully, but those comments from to Tulisa have to come from somewhere. So something HAS happened backstage with Misha and other contestants. Apparentyl she's really confident backstage aswell. And that's fine with me! But if that is so, then she should act that way in interviews aswell. That's just my humble opinion...

I think its just she isn't a great communicator.
Her Tweets never make any sense!

She needs a few lessons/guidence how do 'perform' in interviews. When she is outside of the X Factor bubble and dealing with real journalists, not X Factor presenters, she's going to need some basic skills.

I thought Leona was shy, but wow. Uncomfortable to watch and the presenters have to move on fast to avoid 'dead air'.

According to another poster who met Misha with the other contestants at Westfield.

"Misha was genuinely lovely and friendly to talk to, whereas Markus was really up his own arse! Was in the Apple store at Westfield in Stratford when they all walked in (bar the groups and the overs), and started buying shit-load of iPads! Janet looks stunning in real life, plus Frankie didn't seem to be as full of himself as I thought he'd be. Misha was absolutely lovely, really patient and just seemed very warm. You could tell, however, that Markus really fancied himself and definitely seemed the one least open to pose with fans. He just didn't eminate very much warmth and you could tell people were really wary of approaching him."
Many people find it hard to be interviewed it is not a crime. Why should she act confident in interviews, many people in the public eye do not like being interviewed it is another stupid thing to hold against her.

none of the girls come across very well in the Xtra Factor interviews .. it's like drawing blood from a stone ..... Sophie was a bit more animated but the whole atmosphere of the interviews with the girls after the shows comes across as awkward and devoid of much personality

The boy's interviews aren't that much better although they're improving a bit

It seems to be fair game for Janet, why not for Misha?

I'm being sarcastic here, as I actually agree with you. It's something that both of them will get better at over time with experience.

I find Misha to kind of sway between coming across as shy and sweet to something else, which I can't put into words.

And no I don't mean something else as "cocky" or "arrogant". I think "over thinking her responses" might be what I'm seeing.

I think maybe she has a lot of confidence but I think maybe on the show she feels quite uncomfortable.

Anybody behaving in a naturalistic manner instead of worshipping at the altar of television will look a little eccentric in that context. It was sort of what that Joaquin Phoenix performance art piece was all about on Letterman a few years back. Misha is guarded in her replies because for her there's still a line between performing and being herself. Nobody becomes such a self-assured performer as Misha is without working hard and understanding the dynamics in play between the artist and the audience. The presenters' and judges' role begins after the singing stops and to a seriously minded person their personae might look ridiculous. It's a sign that she's more interested by music than celebrity culture. Yes it could come off as aloof if she doesn't learn to play along at least a little. I think the problem with something like the X Factor is the level of control which is ceded to others. The whole premise of an interview follows a script regarding the heavily stage managed production and the on screen talent are shills for this narrative. In a real situation with journalists a person is able to speak freely from their own perspective about endeavours they had editorial responsibility for and cynicism from a third party may even be beneficial in allowing the interviewee range to articulate where they're coming from in a sincere fashion that aims to convince within that mutual context. All X Factor interviews are essentially an effort to author both sides of a conversation so that the director exerts control over audience expectations. It's possible the unreality of a situation like that can leave a participant hamstrung from speaking well for fear of saying the wrong thing or simply because in the absence of freedom to give an account of one's true self the view is it's best to say as little as possible that might help construct a false impression that could prove embarrassing long afterwards and particularly when the motives of your collaborators are as suspect as humiliating people on live television in order to boost ratings or to manipulate voting or to further storylines. In all honesty who wouldn't be thrown by having to stand and listen to a more senior colleague berate you even if forewarned it was going to happen. What is the proper reaction in that situation? And then back to a slightly pantomime tone in which other presenters treat what was said as a perfectly acceptable thing which happened in the name of light entertainment. No wonder she just briefly says as little as she can get away with while silently wondering when the next beam will fall from the rafters on a stage she thought was supposed to help promote talented young singers.

Plenty of performers are confident on stage and fairly shy in real life, it's hardly unusual.

I love Mishas voice and performances, but I cringe through her interviews on Xtra Factor. It is really difficult to watch, I always feel that she is on coke (I know she isn't!). That weird tongue roll thing she does it weird too. And when asked a question, she thinks about it for a few seconds (tongue rolling) then gives a one word answer.

Janet is not much better, acts more naturally, but like trying to get blood out of a stone - same for Frankie too.
