I'm definitly buzzin for it but no idea whether to get the Play.com exlusive signed STANDARD edition (10 songs) or the non-signed DELUXE edition (13 songs)??
It would be cool having a signed CD from her and its cheaper than deluxe but i normally buy deluxe albums of singers i really like. I wish that The A Team (she sang on Radio 1 Live Lounge) was on it though it sounded like it would be after she then did a studio session covering it

That is the hard decision I am having at the moment. It all depends if i like the deluxe songs. If i don't, it's the signed edition then.

I'm going for the signed standard, personally. Are the 3 extra tracks on the Deluxe covers?
edit: just noticed one of the bonus tracks is a remix of People. Don't normally care for remixes TBH (I got 2 with Lana del Rey's EP and ended up deleting them. Awful). |

3/5 stars in The Telegraph. happy with that. Quote:
The latest “YouTube sensation” is Jasmine “Birdy” Van den Bogaerde, a 15 year-old from the New Forest, whose version of Bon Iver’s Skinny Love has racked up 7 million views. This debut consolidates the buzz with more sparse, affecting covers (the XX, James Taylor), and a lone original track that is adequately folkish, but for now Birdy remains a novelty. Her rich, malleable vocals suggest, however, that she won’t be caged for long. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/m...CD-review.html 3/5 stars from musicomh. Do I see a trend emerging? nice to see the reviewer recognising Without A Word's quality. Quote:
While Birdy’s debut album consists mainly of covers, she is capable of writing her own material. A prestigious talent from a very early age, she learnt to play piano at just six and began writing her own songs the following year. Without A Word is the one self-penned track that makes it on to her debut, and it offers a glimpse of greater things to come. Like the rest of the album, the centrepiece of the song is Birdy’s delicate, yet worldly vocals that soar alongside the harmonious piano. It is one of the album’s standout songs, alongside the three singles and her wonderful take on The Postal Service’s The District Sleeps Alone Tonight. http://www.musicomh.com/albums/birdy_1111.htm
Birdy’s eponymous debut album doesn’t actually reveal much about the 15-year-old that we didn’t already know. Like her cover of Skinny Love, it further demonstrates her stunning vocal ability, whilst also proving her to be a future queen of the minimalist, piano-led cover. The album itself - whilst impressive in its seamless cohesion - does become rather formulaic in Birdy’s treatment of the covers, and therefore suffers from a distinct lack of variety. However, there is no doubt that Birdy will use this debut album as a stepping stone for bigger and better things. With renowned producers already falling at her feet - including James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Florence And The Machine) and Rick Costey (Muse) - Birdy is already being prepared for a big future. |

I hadn't heard of Birdy, but reading this thread and being a Bon Iver / The National fan I scuttled off to Amazon to preview the tracks..sounds interesting

My (signed!!) album hasn't arrived today, not that I was expecting it to so hey ho. I can't believe this hasn't leaked but I'm glad it hasn't, really. Hopefully i will get my hands on it Monday. Here's hoping.
PS player1, she's definitely interesting in the sense that she's 15 and doing a covers album but no way are the covers chosen what you would expect! Some absolute hidden gems on there. Having said that, the only self penned song is IMO every bit as good as all the covers. |

Her song Shelter is available on 7" vinyl and the b side to that is a remix which i think is pretty good. Not all remixes are bad.
http://hmv.com/hmvweb/simpleMultiSea...bmitSearch.y=0 I'm hoping her album will get a vinyl release. |

Got hold of a leak
The non demo version of Without a word is kinda a production mess. It has all these random noises in places and totally spoils the emotion. I am very disappointed as it's my favourite. |

Nooooooooo
. The demo version should have been put on the album. You just don't need to 'over complicate' a voice like Birdy's.

Her voice is fine. The same as the demo. It's the production. It has ruined every feeling and emotion about the song i previously like with demo. It's her only original yet the most poorly produced on the album.

The production on a few other tracks is a bit quesitonable. She's worked with two male producers who work with a lot of well known Indie bands/artists. Her voice doesn't not transcend well on the production. I am very let down.
The term "they need to be shot" is how I feel at the moment. |

It's because I've heard the original version of Comforting Sounds and it's brilliant so want to know if Birdy's version is good |

I sent you a PM
I won't be buying this album. Such a huge let down. I wish the girl nothing but luck though. The production is a huge let down. |

Listening to the album I agree, her vocals are brilliant but the production and voice layering/changing they've done is terrible.
The only songs that are great are the ones she did/played herself where it's just really her and her piano (Skinny Love, Shelter, People Help The People, Without A Word). Recording it in LA in the Summer may have been a mistake as it's a changing sound throughout. I'm glad I haven't bought the album yet as I am now considering after hearing this version I can only hope is a demo. The songs sound more like cold auttumny songs not like I wanted. I can only pray that the songs will grow on me as I really want to like her but I just think the production has been F-ed up and the song choice is terrible |
