Ipad 2 Or Netbook
cason2007

Hi all Im in a dilema on what to get the wife for xmas, do I replace her old netbook or do I get her an ipad2.
She uses her netbook every day and I suppose she is used to windows but has hinted about getting an ipad but not sure if she would get on with it as would be a complete different operating system. We have never used one before so dont no how different it is on the internet but we both have iphones and phones are always different anyway when you go online compared to using a pc, so here's my question
REPLACE OLD OR GET IPAD?
Sorry if I've bored you all but as I said Im struggling on what to decide and I knew you guys would help.........
Thanks in advance.....

The iPad operating system is identical to your iphone. It's just 4 times bigger.

So then it comes down to what you use the netbook for. If she does a lot of typing, get a netbook. If it's just email and surfing then I think it's a close call between the two. It depends how much you like the email and surfing experience on your iphone.

I've had an ipad1 since they came out. I use it every day. It's so much more convenient than starting up a netbook or laptop. I'd have one every time.

If your wife has another computer that she can use for main jobs, then an Ipad is the way to go. It it so handy for most things and portable, more portable than any laptop or netbook. Get a decent folio case to protect it and that is all you need for meetings etc..

Its about the same size as the thinner/smaller netbooks, so its definitely no more portable.

But if you have any tasks that require more than a small amount of typing, the choice has to be a netbook, which also tends to come in at half the price.

Hard to answer.

The iPad 2 will have the more immediate impact though long term an ultrabook type netbook like the £350 HP DM1 that now also comes with the newer E-450 CPU certainly looks the biz.

I'd say, if she has a computer already that she can use, go for the iPad, if you're looking to replace a computer fully then get another laptop/netbook.

If you've got an Apple store (or a PC World with an Apple section) nearby, take her there and have a look at the iPad and the Macbook Airs, see which one she gravitates to more, then you'll be able to decide keyboard or no keyboard.

A couple of people have said that if your wife needs to do typing then a netbook should be the one, BUT I do not feel this is the case. A blue tooth keyboard on the ipad will work fine for any typing needs so I think the typing issue should be disregarded (All in my opinion only of course).

That was also why I suggested a bigger high definition screen and fuller sized keyboard of a sub-notebook/netbook.

One just can't answer how a recipient will feel.
Using a smaller netbook to me is ok unless there is something better available.
I have many doubts about that being a tablet.
