Neglected gems from the first two series
In order to focus anyway from the irritational hate of Jason and debate about Robbie's croch grabbing, Chelsey's wardrobe malfunction and Ailona's lack of dance content I'd focus on the postive. I've been thinking about the best of.. and realise apart the usual suspects i.e Jill's jive, Denise's QS and Julian's samba and Chris's paso for sheer hilarity that my knowledge of the first two seasons is lacking since I wasn't watching it at the time. I've been tipped off to it's neglected horrors - Vorder rhumba, Esther goes Caberet/Chicago by posters in the past. I was wondering if anyone could point dances from the first two series that they thought were fab but are not so that well known about.

What a nice idea for a thread
![]() I still enjoy watching Roger Black's foxtrot with Camilla in series 2. It may not be up there with the greats but it was his best dance of the series, and his delight at scoring an 8 (courtesy of Len I think) still makes me smile

A lot of Aled's dances never fail to make me smile. He was great.

Aled's Tango
Also funny to watch the first appearances of Darren, Lilia and Ian... Ian was super competitive, Darren was quite nervous and talked a lot, and Lilia was just random! ITT was very funny back then too. |

I don't really recall much of the dance, but I remember being impressed with Natasha and Brendan's paso. It was the first time I sat up and got excited about a dance. Until then it was just laughing at Chris running around pretending to be batman.

Aled and Lilia always made me laugh. I remember Aled chasse-ing across the floor in training and saying to Lilia 'don't you think it looks a bit camp' to which she yelled 'I don't care what you think'! Darren Gough got the same treatment the following year, he was informed that it was too late to worry what his mates thought now. I do miss Lilia (and Darren), I thought they were great choreographers who really made the most of their partner's ability.

Lovely idea for a thread! I, too, missed the first two series, only picking up the third series half-way through. So it's great to be able to catch at least some of the clips on YT.
It's frustrating that so few of the dances from those series are available - I found this rather poor quality clip of Aled and Lilia doing a Christmas Special samba. I have been moaning about themed weeks this year and the idiocy of shoehorning dances into inappropriate songs, so it's amusing to see they were doing exactly the same thing back in Series 2! I mean, honestly, a samba to 'Walking In The Air'?!

Being serious now. Definately Denise and Ian's Quickstep and Jill and Darren's Jive. I'm sure there others but I'll need to think some more.

A lot of Jill love going on, so I'd like to add her Cha Cha Cha to the list - probably my favourite female CCC ever.

I was watching that recently, along with Denise's CCC. Is it just me, or did they both outdance Alesha's CCC?

A couple of years ago, I was sorting out old video tapes and found the series 2 semi final - Aled Jill and Denise doing the tango and paso, and Julian doing the jive and foxtrot.
Denise's dances were fantastic and Julian's jive hysterical. |

Jill outdanced Alesha in every dance IMO
![]() As far as I can gather, Jill & Darren were marked down by all four judges for that illegal lift, but in those days the judging wasn't so 'pantomime' so they didn't make such a song and dance about it. |

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Anton and Lesley's jive from series 1
probably because it was a latin but I remember it well.I liked Julian and Erin's rumba, technically it was terrible, but there was a massive amount of tenderness between them in the dance, and afterwards Julian told Tess "I think I might be on the turn" at which Erin collapsed in heaps of laughter

Another vote for Jill's Cha cha cha (though all of her dances are rather good). With grade inflation she would probably score straight 10s all the time now!
Jill was marked down for the illegal lift, but it was also accidental as opposed to choreographed - it's one of those moves where if your body weight isn't quite in the right place, you will end up off the ground. |

I missed all of the first series (living abroad) but was able to see a few clips before Beeb took them off youtube.
Does anyone else remember Brendan and Natasha's routine (might have even been their showdance) when he slid her along the floor on her knees, and when she stood up, her skirt was briefly above her knees and you could see she had two big holes in the knees of her tights! Or did I dream that?? |

It was unexpected and really rather lovely. Julian was the original 'journey man'
