Personal planner and Hi
Alcanara
04-11-2011
Hi folks.... I am new to this site and to the world of freesat.

I have the Humax HD Pvr and am very pleased with it.

I have searched the forum for my answer but with problems with registration and the actual facility, I have not had much luck.

My question is..... Do we have the facility for a "Personal Planner" like I had with sky. You know where you can view the week ahead and place a reminder by the program listing... It also then reminds you just before it starts. My wife uses this function a lot and I do not seem to be able to replicate it with the freesat software on the humax box.

My wife also watches NCIS and CSI which as you know is on 5* or 5USA..... Will these ever become available on freesat????

Thank you for your help.

Stuart.

If you highlight a programme in the EPG then press OK a box should pop up with a Watch option. That might do what the Sky Planner did, or near enough anyway. Pages GB33 onwards in the manual as I recall

Chrisjr..... Cheers for that..... It's amazing what you miss when reading the manual.... As soon as you mentioned the page I went there and found it. I must have read that 3 times before and it still did not register!.

I also wrote to freesat on their website.... They said it was possible but did not explain how????

Well thank you.

I am in the same boat as you Alcanara having recently moved from Sky HD to a Humax Foxsat-HDR (I realised the 90 - 95% of our viewing was free TV making Sky extremely expensive for us). The planner questions have already been answered so I will deal with the 5 channels question.

It is strongly rumoured that 5* & 5USA will launch on FreeSat before Christmas. A new satellite has been launched and has very recently arrived at the Freesat / Sky orbital slot (28.2 degrees East). This satellite has some spot beam capacity, this in theory will provide a good signal to the UK & Eire but little elsewhere meaning 5* & 5USA can (if Richard Desmond desires) swap to the new satellite (their current signal covers much of Europe meaning they need to encrypt the programming using the NDS system as used by Sky) and go Free To Air so that any digital satellite receiver within range can access the signal. As its name suggests FreeSat relies on Free To Air broadcasts. In time hopefully 5HD will come to FreeSat (not that there is much HD on there) but they are locked into a deal with Sky signed by their previous owners which has some time to run.
